While it is not a new concept, you were the one who approached the director. There have been many suggesting to have the 2a community volunteer to clean up the range, yet all it took was that wonderful dentist smile to get the ball rolling.

That is why congratulations are due for you.

 Thanks for being so humble mac. We know who got the wheels turning on this initiative. I understand that it takes the work of many to accomplish this particular task.

I also join in with Q. *golf clap*

He mentioned that he's been "attacked" on internet forums, and how he wished that people would educate him instead of bash him.

I wished I asked  him "What do you expect when he attacks a whole community?" He's basically accusing us of firing into the sky, and is actually accusing the range officers of neglecting their duties. I find that pretty offensive.

yeah
i was going to make a separate post re: people monitoring our forum

So he is trying to dismantle a community and not expect a reaction? Youre a tool Knudsen.
Im down for a range maintenance day.

I'm down for range day, as before.  Hopefully this time it will happen. I can offer welding service as necessary, and manual labor.

I liked what the mayor had to say. I hope he keeps his word. It will mean a lot in my book. Just remember the last meeting we had. The parks director promised changes and we were lucky to get a new roof. I just hope the mayor does not follow that same path. I voted for him in the last election and I hope he sticks to his guns (pun intended) and gets this done in a timely manner. After it was all over I thanked him for taking care of the range and understanding how important it is to us.

aw shucks

truth be told, i almost forgot to bring up the volunteer thing
i think it speaks to the fact that the parks director and the mayor may be on our side about this

you shoulda seen the look on her face when i went over to the bench and brought back all you guys saying you would help out
and the mayor thought it was a great idea and told her to make it happen
i said we need media coverage, and he pointed at his assistant, and said that he'll take care of it
and mike was floored- he was like "i always have to tell people no when they volunteer"
and he said he needed welders to make new target stands
i was about to say that we have welders/fabricators on 2aHI that are willing to help, when ross told him "i can make those"
i told him we have painters/carpenters/heavy equipment operators and just regular people willing to help
hopefully, we can make this happen

I don't know if sand would work for the berm but there is a huge pile of it on the side of the Kailua beach canal. Probably wouldn't be enough but its a start. I'm in to help clean the range. I was there today but had to leave at 12.

Dude, the Kailua Obamaphile leftists would execute you if you actually tried to use "their" beach sand for your shooting pleasure! You can't be serious.

Kailua is considered a republican district, just because he vacations here doesn't  mean we voted for him. The sand has been sitting there for a long time. They have nowhere to dump it if I remember correctly and they can't put it back in the ocean or on the beach.

I applaud the Mayor and his approach to this.  Improving the range is the right answer.   I'm certain it's not the answer that our friend from the neighborhood board wanted to hear.

I remember a number of years ago, some people in San Francisco sued the city because the cable cars made noise when they went by their houses.    I believe the answer was "The cable cars have been there for 100 years.  You knew they went by your house when you bought it".  Same thing here.  The range is much older than those houses and they chose to live near a shooting range.

That being said, making the range safer for everyone is the right thing to do.
