Personally, I wouldn't bring a handgun to anyone's house due to the restrictive nature of the HRS which states where you can legally transport firearms.  If SpeedTek has a firearm business or official gun show permit for his residence, then that's different.

Maybe I'm off base, but that's how I look at it...

It's like doing a face to face transfer or show for possible sale
That's not covered in hrs, but people do it all the time

Yes, people do a lot of things all the time not specified in the firearm laws.

Why chance losing the right to own guns doing something for the sake of convenience?

Example:  Coming home from a swap meet, you are hit by a drunken holiday party goer.  HPD is called to the scene, and they find your cargo.  There's not much chance at that time of night explaining it away as returning from the range, a gun shop, or the police station.  Whether you are the unsuccessful seller or the lucky buyer, it won't matter.  At least one, if not both of you, have broken the law (in my non-lawyerly opinion).

I meet at HPD or the range when viewing handguns for sale.  Transfer happens at HPD.  It avoids taking that risk.

Like I said, it's my personal feeling.  People will do whatever they want, and they normally won't have a problem ... until they do.

+1, I wouldn't bring any handgun to any party.  felonies not only take away your ability to own a gun for the rest of your life, it also means you gotta pay a big fine and go to jail!  you could lose your job, your house, your family, your cars and toys as well as a host of other things (the list is really too long).  It's not worth it for me.  I would rather just buy a few brand new at full price rather then to save a few bucks and commit a felony!

Isn't the truth u brought the handgun to potential buyers no matter what time of day or night?

If you drink that's another story....

The law doesn't specify the purpose of transporting firearms, only the authorized destinations. So, you could use any reason to legitimize the presence of a handgun, but if it isn't  one of the valid locations or in transit between them, the reason is irrelevant.

Like any law it is meant to protect us, but not 100% of all people abide by them.... Driving while using cell phone... Drinking and driving... How many more innocent people get killed by drunk drivers...

I believe part of the charter of this site is to promote responsible gun ownership and educate owners on the laws in Hawaii, among other things.

If you personally don't agree with the law, or if you think the law as written allows anything not specifically forbidden, then that's your opinion.  I prefer to stick to the text of the law and follow its intent.  I also prefer to steer people toward a path that won't get them charged with a felony.  Just because someone is an adult and free to choose doesn't mean we have no responsibility to educate and discuss so their decision is an informed one.

That's all I have to say about this. Again, I would not PERSONALLY take a handgun to anyone's house.
