Pretty much what Ren said.  Just waiting for the proper clearances to run the range.

I proposed no pit service. Shooters will set up their own targets, spot for themselves and clean up after themselves - like Kokohead. That way we have more time shooting and can accommodate more shooters.I suggested starting at 100 yards for about 15-20 min shooting time then about 10 mins for target repairs for about two iterations then head back to 200 - repeat till noon. If it does materialize shooters will be responsible for bringing their own targets, staple gun or spray glue to affix to target frames, a good spotting scope, water and food plus any other supplies they need. Again just like shooting at Kokohead. Since this is a .mil range silhouettes may be permitted.

Sounds good

The target stands at Pu'uloa are huge in comparison to the standard kokohead target stand.  Just a thought, to make the shooting times longer as we can put up way more paper targets.

Sorry guys, I was not able to get the Puuloa range for us to use for rifle fire.  Range is not available that weekend.  I'll post again if I'm successful in getting another date in the future.

The next official scheduled Puuloa Club rifle practice is on January 19th.   www.puuloa.com.

mahalo for your efforts, zippz

Rifle shooting appears to be a GO at this point with a need for one beach guard and maybe a qualified medic/EMT.
With that in mind Zippz and myself will be in charge of the rifle range on that day.
Key things to remember if this event goes forward:
Plan to have range hot at 8:00 AM and last shot at 11:45 AM on Dec. 21 (Saturday)
Be there by 7:15 AM for sign in, range brief, orientation.
We are guests of the Marine Corps. proper attire and behavior will be enforced. No smoking or tobacco on the range.
Calibers limited to .223, 308 win and 30/06.
No rapid firing i.e. mag dumps
More to be briefed at the range.
Required items:
•   Eye protection
•   Ear protection
•   Water
•   Open bolt indicator

The open shoot will be like Kokohead where shooters will be responsible for setting up and spotting their own targets. Paper targets only. Silhouettes are allowed. You will be utilizing club target frames so bring stapler, tape or spray glue tape for fastening targets to the frame.
We plan to shoot starting from the 100 yard line to the 200 yard line within the time allotted.

Remember it is a bit of a walk, there is no cover and no benches so bring the appropriate gear. i.e. good spotting scope, range cart.

Safety rules and procedures will be briefed and enforced. Everyone is a safety officer. If you violate it you will not get yelled at like Kokohead but will be removed from the range.

PM with an email address me if you are committed to attending. I will consolidate into an email distro list.

Please see the guide for whats going to happen on Saturday.  As far as rifle calibers go, think it's okay as long as it's not a 22lr, and not exceed 30-06 in caliber and ballistics.  There will be a fee, probably around $10 to pay for the guards and supplies.  Depends on how many shooters we get.

There are no benches or shade, you can stand and shoot or go prone in the dirt.  You will do a lot of walking so dress comfortably.  Also pack light since you have to carry everything with you.

PM Ren with your name, email, & phone # if you will be attending so we know whos coming.

Also you do not need a car decal or pass or inspections to get on to the range.

I'd like to emphasize that if you don't PM me by Thursday 9pm DO NOT SHOW UP.
This is not a just-show-up-and-shoot event. I need to have some control/management of the shooters as we are guests. No spectators. No pets.

We've shot throughout the rain until the targets either can't be seen or they fall off from the rain. If the weather is extremely bad or the Marines tell us otherwise, we plan to shoot. Last I read the forecast, it will rain till Friday. Haven't seen the weekend forecast yet. Please prepare for inclement weather.

Weekend is clear and cool.  We'd shoot in the rain until the targets fall off anyways.

Thanks to zippz and the range staff. Great day, slight rain. Good to meet fellow 2A-ers.
I learned something new today. A taller front sight base is denoted by an "F" mark on the left side of the housing (view from the rear of rifle), not on the right. The markings on the right denote forge marks. I was shooting 20" high with my standard service rifle load in my new A4 service rifle upper because I thought I had a tall FSB.
