The reason I found the story interesting, and the comment by Mr. Codrea so salient, was the obvious hypocrisy of the anti crowd, which so often tends to have the socialist, liberal bent. They would never be so "insensitive" as to blame a "flaming" gay for causing homophobic fears, nor would they blame the black male for causing irrational racist fears, and on and on. But, when the subject of guns come up, it is the gun, the object of the irrational fear, that should be "controlled" and removed from the public so as not to incite the irrational fear of guns (hoplophobia) rather than education and tolerance.
