I personally know Breene, so I can confirm that he is pressing for answers (as I continuously ask him for updates). He is running for a seat in the State Senate, but I've been pestering him about our very prohibitive gun laws for a long time now so this is not a new issue to him.

Anyway, I hope this gets resolved ASAP...I have 2 new AR's I need to zero!

I just wanted to follow-up with, regarding the Kokohead complex.  Although we have not yet received a official response to our inquiry, on your behalf, from the administration the Council’s Parks committee will be holding a hearing on this issue next week Tuesday.  The hearing begins at 10:30am and can be viewed, live, on Olelo Channel 54.  If you wish to submit testimony, you may do so by following this link: http://www1.honolulu.gov/council/testify.htm

SAME Tuesday Committee meeting in Heavies post that stated that item was cancelled?

Basically the same response here as well, except he gives the room number.  It is courious that one report says the item was cancelled, and newest response says it is still on? 

Thank you for your input and for sharing your research.  I will pass this on to Councilmember Anderson and the director for consideration.  Just for your information: the Council’s Parks committee will be having an informational briefing on the range next week Tuesday.  The meeting will be held in the Council’s committee meeting room, 2nd Floor of Honolulu Hale, at10:30am.  All Council meetings are broadcast live on Olelo (Channel 54) if you’d prefer to monitor the meeting remotely.

I just spoke with Breene...the item IS officially cancelled. The chairperson of that committee stated that he needed more time to find out what's going on. They MAY still accept testimonies, but that's not a sure thing and they will not discuss further due to it not being on the schedule.

I did stress that the public is getting impatient and the ball needs to get rolling or action might be taken against the city, for whatever its worth.

Decided to drop by the KHSC on the way home today, got there at 1600L so there were just a handful of guys still over by the handgun side.   There's now a big pile of red dirt in front of the pile of sand on the silhouette side and several survey stakes setup on the rifle side (when compared to the previously posted images).  I was not the only one checking things out... Our esteemed Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board chair did a little drive by as well     Probably making sure the coast was clear in order to find handgun bullets or shot from the trap range for the next board meeting...

Hope the REALLY start working this soon.   Sadly I'm in the same boat as the others here, several emails but no real response other than what's already been said.

"I just completed my visit to the shooting range and meeting with the
Director of the Dept. of Parks and Recreation.  Our visit was cut
short because construction work began as we were there and because of
EPA regulations regarding contamination, everyone had to leave,
including HPD and Coast Guard personnel who had permits for today.
Workers were in white overalls with their entire bodies and heads
covered.

I was informed that the entire shooting range will be closed for this
short-term solution.  The Director said that she hopes it will re-open
in two weeks.  I asked her how she is communicating with the shooting
community, and she responded that they have a great website.  If she
is not communicating well to keep everyone informed, please let me
know.

Assuming that she is properly informing the shooting community, you
should already know what the short-term plan for remediation is, and
what the long-term solution is that will take many years and much
funding to complete.

When I asked about partnering with the shooting community to have them
operate the entire facility, she said that she is considering that.  I
have suggestions as to how to make this work.

Good to know that work is being done. Time line seams to coincide with what the mayor was saying this morning on the radio.
