ammunition and powder life in Hawaii
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:02:36 AM »
We moved to the Hilo area on the big island a couple years ago. I sold most of my firearms before the move from the Seattle/Tacoma area in Washington State. I did a lot of shooting. handload developement, and competition shooting. I brougfht a few select firearms and the relosding dies for them, a lot of primers and rimfire ammuntion also. I have shot only air guns since we moved onto our acre of land here. I am wondering what effects the climate might have on ammunition and gun powder in the factory containers. I brought no powder with me. I will have to retake the NRA course I understand before I can join the shooting range here.

I did a lot of NRA Hunter Pistol 100 meter, and IHMSA two hundred meter handgun competition, and some bowling pin matches in Wa. State. And, yes, I took each firearm to the Hilo Police station and registered them right away.

Anyone know the cost of membership at a shooting range near Hilo?

Thanks for any comments you might make.

Membership in the Glenwood Range Association costs $50/yr.  If you can find your old NRA certificate (or get the original instructor to issue another one), you don't have to take the course again to join the club.  I don't know what the policy at HPD is, though; you still may need to take the course (or Hunter Safety) to buy any more pistols.

Powder should be fine (cause the containers are airtight), but primers and rimfire ammo won't last forever in cardboard boxes.

Powder starting to dry up in certain places in the mainland again better pick some up from the LGS when you can.

I'm guessing your in HPP somewhere?
