Lots of tidal movement and surge. I think other islands caught more damage. The reports should be in by the end of the day.

Don't be complacent folks. This is good practice. You never know the the SHTF fo real. Protect yourselves and your family.
The wife was much more efficient this time around. Got every thing packed and out the door in 20 min.
I'd like her to be more self sufficient though. She waited for me to get work in order and come home. We had plenty time, this time around, but if the Big Island blows, we are not going to have much warning, if any at all.

Flooding was semi-bad here on Maui, water reached up maybe a block or 2 from the harbor to my local bank. My home lies in the flood zone but thankfully no water/damage reached us. I would never become complacent with tsunami warnings even after 2 duds.

yeah, thank god this was merely a good practice drill for Oahu residents.  Was really disappointed at myself....was in those gas station lines again.

Lots of rumors spreading though. I certainly hope this is a rumor.

We're not out of the woods yet.  Fukushima nuclear plant unable to cool.  Possible melt down.  Not sure what the implications are for Hawaii.

I was proud... had 40 gallons of water prepped and bug-out supplies packed in half an hour.  Last year was a great trial run!

I have to share 2 very annoying/disturbing/angering things I learned or found out.

1.) When my family evacuated our area we headed to a relatives home that was far and away safe from any potential tsunami damage. When we got there we noticed their neighbors across the street were packing up and leaving in a convoy of 4 cars. It kind of pissed me off that they were just adding to the early traffic by being on the road when they were at a safe zone.

2.) My brother's friend was messaging him that he was getting angry and panicking because his parents refused to leave. They live a few houses from us and again, we live in the flood zone. It was ridiculous to hear that his parents were arguing and yelling at him for trying to pack and move to higher ground.

No offense to anyone because this may sound harsh but for all those people who sit and stay thinking nothing will happen...well, they deserve to be washed away.

I don't trust the weather man... and the weather happens everyday.  Do you really trust the tsunami people to be 100%  correct?  Don't be mad because that group of people left when they were not in the "flood zone" you should support them.

I do agree that it's better to be safe than sorry but we were so far in along with the fact that the water would have to be traveling uphill to reach us that it just seemed far fetched.

The street we live on is the split.  Our side is the Stay side and the other side is the Leave side.

For a tsunami to hit where we live, it would have to originate in Washington State area.

We store potable water in recycled Arizona tea gallons.   We have about 40+ gallons.

Also planning on getting Pur or Brita water filtration pitcher since I don't like the taste of our tap water.
   I have and use a Pur faucet mounted water filter for the water I drink

Costco has the Brita water filter Pitcher version on sale with coupon Now.

I also have a dozen or so clean 5 gal buckets which I can fill with potable water If necessary.

For the toilet, I have a total of 4 City recycleing bins.  Every so often, I do wash out the 2 green bins
    for toilet water if needed.

In retrospect, I should have filled up the vehicles with gas first.   Filling the aquatainers and charging batteries/phones could have waited.  It was 9pm when I went out to fill the 1st vehicle.  Not much waiting.   Came back and took the 2nd vehicle out at 9:20pm.  The first sirens went off at 9:30pm and there were already 10 cars in front of me.  The wait was about 10-15 minutes.    After the first siren blast, the roads started getting busy.  I think most people waited or weren't aware of what was going on until 9:30pm. 

I did not stack the aquatainers so they were ok and didn't leak.  I started saving my 2 liter soda pop bottles since January and have about 10 of them filled.  I stuck those in the freezer just in case we lost power.  Double duty as ice and water container.

I felt more ready this time around than last year. 

we were in the ward area when the sirens first sounded. there was quite a bit of traffic, but it seemed like it was more of the initial rush to get home. i had to go into work around 12, and traffic seemed a lot lighter. from the h2 traffic it looked like a lot of ppl were going to mililani.

talking to some coworkers about ppl hanging out at the beach, they thought ppl should be arrested. not sure how much good that would do, since it would tie up resources. but i come from a family of firefighters, and i hate the idea first responders would have to risk their lives for ppl that don't listen.
