Happy New Year 2A gang!!  Looking into a laser trainer to practice dry firing and accuracy with here at home. I am stuck on the laser lyte reaction time targets, the laser lyte trainer target and the newer laser lyte cans that fall over when shot with the laser. Anybody got opinions? I was at speedtecs picking up a carbine and he showed me the cans, wish I would have tried them out when I had the chance. I think the reaction time targets might be best for me.

Just checking what you guys think. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy the new years night :shaka:

i have the original, big target
my friend has the reaction time ones, and has let me borrow them a couple of times
i tried the can ones at speedtek's house
i prefer the reaction time ones, then cans are a hassle because you have to pick them back up
i will try and bring the other 2 to the next pau hana and we can have a comparison test

exactly what i was thinking…I don't want to reset after every three shots :-\ I am leaning to the reaction targets for sure. Which laser cartridge is best? I shoot 9mm and maybe for my .223/5.56 later on.

I wish I could hang with you guys at the next pau hana but I live Kauai. Maybe sometime when I happen to be there and something is planned I will try and make it.

i bought the one that goes in the front of the barrel, because i though i would buy different calibers later
i regret it now
wish i got the one that goes in the chamber since i only own a 9mm

If you don't mind me asking, how does that universal model compare to the caliber specific cartridges?  Is it a hassle to switch guns?  Does it pick up the sound from the firing pin strike reliably?  Also, do you think it would work in a pistol with a comp?  Any experience you could share would be much appreciated as I'm also looking for more interactive/ fun options for dry-fire practice.  I went the airsoft route for practice, even made a falling plate rack and picked up an airsoft Texas Star, and although our kids love it, cleaning up is a pain in the butt.  Thanks again for any advice you may have.

universal model seems ok
never tried it in other guns, but it is relatively easy to switch calibers
like i said, the only reason to get it is if you have different caliber handguns and want to save money
otherwise, the ones that go in the chamber are much better

note- on the targets and in the part that goes in the pistol, make sure you ALWAYS remove the batteries

Seems like a pain with the chamber lasers that you have to reload it in the magazine every time you rack the slide to cock with a striker fired semiauto.

I could see it with my 1911.

Sorry
I may have misstated that
It goes in the barrel, from the chamber
You actually have to push it out of the barrel with something like a chopstick

They are machined so the extractor won't  grab it and eject it when you rack the slide.

Ah, so.  Never handled one, and the detail about the extractor rim is not obvious.

Any brand work better than others?  My Glock 30 barrel is too short I think for the Laserlyte barrel spud if it is the same as the boresighter, so the chamber type are of interest.

I've only used the Laserlyte chamber type, works great in my S&W Shield.

i have this boresighter
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005AXT43Q/?tag=2ahawaii-20
it's at least twice as long, nearly three times as long as the one i linked to earlier
for peace of mind, i would stick with the laserlyte brand
although all the knockoff are probably made in the same factory since they look the same
