Why you would argue about this is beyond me.  If you don't think that secure storage of firearms is important then you are part of the problem.  You don't need laws to tell you that the best way to keep firearms out of the hands of those that should not have them is to lock them up and store them securely so access is severely restricted.  Every time a kid shoots up his school with a firearm that he/she shouldn't have access to the Second Ammendment takes a hit.  If you don't agree with the safe and secure storage of firearms, maybe you shouldn't have them either.  If you leave them under your bed and they get stolen (not that this happened to OP as he hasn't given the details of his storage arrangement) you had it coming.  This is the kind of stuff that make it difficult to defend your right to bear arms.  C'mon.....

Bud, if you think I'm arguing against having a safe, you need to re-read my posts!

On the other hand, most gun owners concerned with preventing theft/"guns in the wrong hands" will buy a safe regardless of what the law requires.

That's the problem, "MOST" should have been changed to "ALL"--- because if only "MOST" are concerned, then people's stuff will continue to be stolen and people who shouldn't have it will get it.  So if OP left his gun unsecured and it got stolen too bad.  Don't come crying here acting like it was some type of injustice.  I can hardly imagine this M&P 15 winding up in the classifieds.  I hope he gets it back so that no harm comes to anyone. But at the same time I hope everyone secures their firearms against theft.  I mean EVERYONE, not just "MOST" everyone.
It is what it is.

You don't know ALL gun owners.  Therefore, you don't know if what you are saying is true for ALL.

Guns are stolen all the time.  I have a friend who's guns were stolen after their safe was broken into.  The thieves set the closet on fire blowing open the door.  So, guns will still be stolen even if ALL concerned owners use safes.

I'd bet ALMOST ALL new gun owners buy their gun first, and THEN they go out and get the safe.  They shop around, look at classifieds, and compare prices and features.  It could take a few days.  This OP, for all you know, ordered a safe and is waiting for delivery.

My point is, you don't know.

Sorry for your loss brah :( but in hindsight, there should've been a safe waiting at home to secure it in. Also, I would think about your friends that you associate with. For someone to break in and just take the rifle and a couple backpacks, it's more than likely someone you know. Sometimes, lessons are learned the hard way. Hopefully not at the expense of others.

Right, so I just bought a bicycle and ordered a lock.  I am waiting for the lock to come.  So its OK to ride my bike everywhere and not lock it up?  I know, bikes are stolen all the time even when they are locked up. But, I would wager that more unlocked bikes are stolen than locked bikes?  Your arguments are comical.  Why defend this position?  If you have something dangerous, lock it the fuck up.  Period.  If you can't, then maybe don't buy it until you can.  Pretty simple. I know I don't know everything about all people.  But what I do know, is that if you own firearms, they should be locked up so people that shouldn't have them are not able to get them from you (if you take the time to do this and they are still stolen, well then at least you did your due dilligence.  But to just say what you are saying....really? ). I just hope that this guy's M&P 15 doesn't wind up in the hand of some 16 year old who is pissed off at his teacher and decides ......well you know how these stories end.
It is what it is.

PM'd ?

Air this crap out in public for all of us to enjoy !   :D

To the OP,
Hope you get your gun back man. But definitely report it to HPD if you haven't. ( assume you have )
You are strictly liable for what that gun is used for if it's not reported stolen.

Bud, you should start your own thread for this .... Why gun buyers should have a safe and when they ought to buy it.

I told you I wasn't arguing with you, but you won't take "I agree" for an answer.

Anybody remembers the days when you went to register your firearms you had to show a diagram of where your safe was?

What a wonderful forum this is where a guy can tell people to be on the lookout for a stolen gun and get preached at for not keeping it a safe.

I agree, Bruddah was just putting out an APB on a stolen rifle to prevent us from buying one and to keep on the lookout.

Buy a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Yes, they are sitting at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean somewhere but... They are all safely locked in a safe.
