Oahu guns on the neighbor Islands
« on: January 18, 2014, 08:12:55 PM »
So the wife is talking about us going to the Big Island for a couple weeks.  If I want to bring a gun with me is there anything special that needs to be done with regard to registration?  The gun would be registered with Honolulu PD.

Thanks

Not unless u change your permanent place of residence.  Standard travel rules apply.  Make sure you can legally own and safely store your firearms when your on vacation.

You gotta reregister if you move?
Would I be able to buy a long gun on another island with my Honolulu permit?

Good question.  Just doing a quick read of the law, I didnt see where it said you would ever need to reregister it on move or otherwise.   It says when guns are brought into the state or when they are acquired.  Did I miss it?

Are you going hunting or target practice somewhere here on the Big Island?  Target practice out the Kona end of the island Manuka would be okay think someone has a youtube video on how to get there.  On the Hilo side it's just at the 16 mile marker.  There is another place on the Hilo side further up the mountain but little bit harder to get there.

Target practice on the Hilo side.  Thanks for the very helpful info.

I asked this a few years back when I moved to the BI and the consensus FWIW was that there is no requirement to re-register anything when moving between islands/counties.
