Bolt stop pin on ruger 10 22
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:41:15 PM »
Just recently purchased a ruger 10 22 and was wondering if the bolt stop pin supposed to be loose in the receiver. Took it apart to clean before first firing and the bolt just slid out while I was taking the two receiver cross pins out. Put everything back together but the stop pin just slides back and forth and you can hear it sliding back and forth when the stock is attached. Called SA about it and was told after I register it  to bring it back and they will send it to the manufacturer for them to look at it. Would that be something that could be fixed on Oahu or just send it back?

Are u talking about the buffer pin?  If so replace it with a aftermarket one and be done with it.  Pm speedtek he has alot of 10/22 stuff.  If I recall most my pins were "loose" lik the trigger housing.  But sliding around I dont recall for the buffer

Could be that the receiver whole was bored out slightly too big or u just got a bad fiiting pin.  The buffer was the first to go when I got my first 10/22.  Then the hands free bolt release was next mod.  Check out kidd products they are top notch and read up on cheap and easy mods on rimfirecenteral.com

If it's the bolt stop (buffer) pin that the bolt hits in the rear of the receiver, both my 10/22's had what I considered loose pins.  When I took the receivers off the stocks, I had to be careful to catch the pins when I tilted them sideways.

I recently replaced them with these:

ProMag Ruger 10/22 & Charger Recoil Buffer 3-Pack

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003BAHTEQ/?tag=2ahawaii-20

Reduces most of the sound caused by the bolt hitting the buffer pin, and reduces some of the felt recoil.  They will need replacing after some use, but for the cost, it's not a problem.  If you have one 10/22, this comes with 3 pins, so should last awhile.

And, if they become loose, you won't hear them rattling around in the receiver!

Mine was loose too. I got the promag one you see above and it fits nicely. Stopped the metal pinging noise. I then upgraded to the Kidd one but it make no difference in noise. It's a metal pin with rubber surrounding it. Save your money and get the promag.
Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

Got the hookup from Dex. come to find out the factory buffer pin was slightly smaller which was why it was just sliding.
Mahalo Dex for helping me out.
