Anyone with MPPL?

Thinking of taking the 101 class in May.

Just want to see what your guys' experience is with it.  :shaka:

Also, do you get to practice in between events? Or do you show up to an event and hope you learned something from the last one?

Show up and hope you learned.  I will probably find out Thursday, if they (kokohead) will be letting me use the range as Hawaii Defense Foundation.  I am going to speak to one of the park directors, and if that doesn't work -- I will be heading to speak to the directors of the parks and recreation. Should that fail, well, I will get a 3rd job and handle it a different way lol.

Good luck. I hope they don't try to fight it and just let you use it.

I'm with MPPL and HPS and it's definitely fun.

The stages that MPPL designs is a little more catered to new folks, as it doesn't involve a whole lot of movement. HPS usually designs stages w/ a lot of movement, most times you running back and forth on more then one occasion. As b2b said, take it slow. If you attempt to go at near the speed, or even half that of the more seasoned shooters, your will do horribly. Also be vary wary of your muzzle sweeping. It's an honest mistake from most people, but a mistake none the less.

As far as practice goes, there isn't a lot where you can. The most you can do is practice your draw and reloads at home, and a lot of dry firing. As far as live fire, you more or less have to remember what you did the last match, and attempt to change it, or try a different approach. There's a lot of videos on you tube, both locally and nationally. Watching those gives you a good idea of the different styles people have, as well as giving you somewhat of an idea of what to expect.

Dude I work on my handgun presentation several times just about every night. Just the other night, gf started laughing because she saw the muzzle from the doorway while I was aligning the sights to the kitty calendar. She was like, I see you playing with your gun! Then I started giving her the lecture on the importance of dry firing lol. I'm pretty sure she didn't get it though . The ATAC guys were a blast and I learned tons, not just about techniques but especially about myself and my capabilities. I will do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks man

I really hope you get something with the range. I'd love to be able to continue practicing what we learned in a more hands-on way. Which brings me back to why I posted this thread in the first place lol. It's not the same but it's the next closest thing available on the island me thinks.  :geekdanc:

That's the 1st step. Now get out there and practice. Don't let the concept of the classifier stage get to you. That's what I did, and fudged a good amount of my initial classifiers. Now my classification is very very sad.
