I heard some people make cheap night vision out of those old  consumer camcorders by adding an infrared flashlight

Benjamin Marauder Can't remember the one Nakas buddy had but it was a semi PCP and all you could hear was the trigger. Filled with a scuba tank.
Camcorders with a CCD sensor can see a bit at night or a Gen 1 NVD

Out in the open, those little buggers are hard to get
For quick spotting and firing maybe a flashlight and laser for short range
In back of my house is close range in the brush
So i need to spot and fire in 2 seconds or less
Its pretty hard

I use a simple .177 break bbl (1200 fps) pellet gun and a red flood light.
Just hang out in the backyard with light facing garden w/ loaded rifle while having a beer.
Seems they still think they are "invisible" with the red light.

is the light mounted to the gun, or is it stationary?

I've been using a Crosman Quest 800 break barrel .22, 800fps
i just hold my flashlight in my left hand while aiming, and forehead flashlight
open sights

maybe i will try the red light next
once i get off a shot, the rat or rats scatter and thats it for a couple hours, until they come back
mine are in the mango tree and a bush next to the tree, hard to keep sight of them up there

I haven't sighted in the red dot on this gun yet
so i haven't tried it yet
also it takes 2 CO2's, and seems like a waste to shoot once and then discard the 2 CO2's since the rats scatter after 1 shot.

and I have more confidence in my rifle accuracy and 1 shot kill vs this Umarex Steel Storm 6 round burst BB gun
the BB's go through a full soda can, but the rifle shooting 22's gets much more shock value over the 6 BB's

theres a youtube vid of night time rat hunt with night scope and Gamo rifle in a barn
seems like indoors in the barn is much easier since they are cornered and easy to sight.
but youtube blocked at work, so i cant bring it up right now.

stang.. actually the co2 is like a mag you can remove it with out waste the cartridge. And reinsert whenyou want to use again. They also make a bulk air adapter which uses the paintball compressed air tanks for unlimited shots.

i hear its bad for the seal to leave the CO2 connected for a length of time.
the Umarex seems like a double seal.
one seal to the mag, and another seal from mag to gun.
i'm not sure, need to look closer at it when i get home.

but I'm going to look for a red light, maybe that will be better in not scaring the rats as fast instead of regular light.
night vision scopes are expensive.
my airgun is only worth $100, dont want to spend 300 for a night scope.

Youtube has a ton of vids.  I have been trying to find someplace to do some ratting.  Here is a link to a Youtube video that shows how she made her NV scope.

As for air rifle I was considering the Crossman Optimus http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B004V9577M/?tag=2ahawaii-20 .  Price is below $100 with free shipping and it gets up to 1200fps.

So far no one has taken me up on my offer to do some rat eradication.

Very cool. Now I'm tempted to upgrage the airgun and copy her setup.
