Recommendations for A GUN SAFE
« on: April 18, 2011, 09:25:05 PM »
I'm now in the market for a decent safe...something that could hold about 20 guns, and hold off fire for a 30 mins or more. I was interested in a Liberty but there's no way to get one of the good ones out here. Any of you guys help me out??

I just bought a Browning safe from Sports Authority.

It was $999 minus 25% it ended up $749.

The browning safes are very well made and considered to be top tier as far as safes go.

I really like the safe. It is very solid and roomy.

Check it out.

Brownings are good. We have had them in the family for years. I prefer safes with corner lugs, but as long as you place it correctly, you are good.

Safes that can be tipped over on their backs can be pried open easily. Put it in a corner and lag bolt it to the floor or wall studs....done!
Relax, I've banned myself..

All three of my safes are bolted to the concrete ground.
Is there any other way?

I feel bad for the families of any chronics who break into my house.

From my vast amount of first hand knowlegde (read: looking on the internet) most gun safes won't handle an actual 30 minute fire while protecting what's inside and are rated as Residential Security Containers (RSCs).

How much are you looking to spend? The Liberty safe sounds good and you could probably find a local retailer. I would love to get a Graffunder or a Sturdy but I'm sure shipping would kill to Hawaii. Then again, maybe not. I had a computer rack freighted for a few hundred bucks. You could also look at the url=http://www.amsecusa.com/Gun_Safes/BF_Series_Gun_Safes/]Amsec BF series of safes[/url]. They are pretty highly regarded and I know they are sold locally.

I'd totally go with a Pendleton Rotating gun safe. If I could afford it...

i bought a Libery Centurion safe from Lowes.  If you get one of those change of address packets, you'll get a 10% off coupon for Lowes and can get a nice safe for a good price.  They sell the 22 Long gun safe and the 12 long gun safe.  The 22 long gun safe has a UL rating and costs $866 (that's the one i got).  Total cost with 10% off would be around $816.  At the time i bought it, they were offering free CURBSIDE delivery.  They might still have that offer.

Lots of really good info there guys, thanks!
I've checked out all the links and learned a lot...

..that Pendleton, now that's really nice!
Maybe I get a good one for cheaper than I was looking to spend, that's always a great learning curve!!
Thank you all.

I have 3 kids and live on the 3rd floor of an apartment with no elevator.. I bought a 6' x  3' Craftmans metal cabinet...It's light and big... I put a big heavy bracket and extra pad lock on it to keep the kiddies out.....

Costco has gun safes too!

Costco and Sam's occasionally carry Remington gun safes in the $500-600 range. IIRC they have a 1+ hour fire rating. I haven't been to Costco in awhile, but did see one last month at Sam's PC in the back clearance/display model area marked $489 (probably less if it's still there).
