Arsenal Saiga or Sig 556 R (7.62x39)
« on: April 20, 2011, 12:10:47 AM »
Ok so I'm looking at buying my next toy.

I've decided on either a Sig 556 R or an Arsenal Saiga.

Both of these take the AK47 magazines and are chambered in 7.62x39.

I've found them for $800 (Saiga) and $1100 (Sig) O.T.D. Including all taxes.

The Saiga comes with 2 30 round magazines, the Sig comes with 4 30 rounders and their red dot sight.

Opinions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard the sig is having lots of issues currently. Either way, I'd go with the arsenal. They are a known quality.

The way the markets going, I'd have to agree with Alaskana. Saiga is a "legit" Russian reciever. The Sig556R just came out so it won't go away soon. Worst case is "The Man in Charge" will stop the importation of the Saiga 7.62x39mm like he's trying to with the Saiga12's..Kaneohe Gun Shop sells the Arsenal 7,62x39mm for $775...I'd get the Saiga first...................then the Sig556R  ;)

I'd get the Saiga too. It's a tried and true platform and it's already converted. It looks like Arsenal does builds on different receivers. If that is the case, I'd get a Russian.

I'd have to agree with the Saiga as well.

I'm glad I bought the Saiga AK.

I took it to Kokohead for its inaugural shooting session and it shot perfectly.

No failures whatsoever and was sighted in perfectly from the factory.

I shot 200 rounds today.
Had a great time.

You did good. I personally own three Saigas. An Arsenal in 7.62 I paid way too much money for back during the panic, a 5.45 I just finished converting, and a 12 that I'm going to convert. My favorite is the 5.45. You might want to consider replacing the (IMO) crappy Arsenal trigger with a Tapco trigger group, only costs about $25 and makes a world of difference.

I have gone through over 300 rounds ever since I put the Bushnell TRS25 red dot on the AK.

I've got to say, I love this rifle.

I just bought 1000 rounds of ammo and am itching to shoot mine more.

My wife wishes I fondled her as much as I do my SGL21. Hahaha

My 556R just got back from Sig and they've addressed my concerns plus some.  I'm looking forward to a range session with this rifle!
