Has anyone ordered ammo from CMP? My Garand through them was sent FedEx, but is it the same for ammo? I'm just curious because $16-30 per case couldn't possibly cover FedEx rates.

Most of those places will either not ship to Hawaii or their rate will be incredibly high to us. ( for ammo)

Actually, the shipping from CMP to Hawaii is damned reasonable.  It pisses me off unreasonably, because it comes FedEx overnight, but doesn't cost them what it would cost from ANY other vender, which tells me that FedEx is raping us because they can.

The last order I placed, maybe 6 months ago, I ended up paying about 60 cents per round for my ammo.  Yes, that includes shipping!

The CMP must get a government charter discount or something. I've paid $25-40 to overnight a letters via UPS or FedEx, so seeing a low rate for ammo had me confused...and a little pissed now too. At that price, I was thinking they had an exemption from ORM-D regs to ship USPS.

60 cents/round is what I came up with too. Guess you ordered .30-06.

I never go by what the websites say. Usually, if you pick up the phone they'll work with you to make a deal. From doing that, I know there are several places that have no problem with shipping to Hawaii. The good ones only charge UPS Ground rates plus a $65 hazmat fee. You just need to find a good deal and order a large quantity to make it worthwhile.

Yes. I ordered several cases of 22 and 30.06.  Their website specify rates for Hawaii.  They also offer 223 on occasion. I can't think of a better service than CMP.

I looked at the 223 they have on CMP. OGC has far better prices at $0.34 per round per 1000 for feds. *edit* when it's on sale

I don't have enough experience with the 30-06 to comment on that though so, just my observation!

CMP prices on .30-06 are unbeatable.  They rival reloading costs.

Their prices on .30 carbine and .22 lr are not sensational, merely competitive.

Never bothered looking into .223 since I don't have one.

The CMP .223 is Hornady 75 BTHP Match. I think the OGC Federal offering is for FMJs.
Best of all is that the ammo is shipped to your place.
