Deployment

Hi Guys,

My hanai son will be deploying next month(or so we think).

Even if he's not my flesh and blood son, the Wife and I really Love him just like he was really ours.

Of course, Mom and Dad are worried about him.  Especially since he was in Iraq 3 X with out a scratch.

Of course "Dad" has given him all kinds of usefull and some not so useful "toys"  I'd even give him my Scandium litweight 44 mag with ammo.
But, you know that's prohibited item for a combat infantry man.  At least I was able to teach him how to handle a sidearm left or right handed, just in case.

Anyway, I found this:  http://blastboxers.com/   and altho they are pricey, I am thinking of getting him 2 pairs.  It all started from a news article.  they even have a US distributor.

If any of you Guys are interested, ASK me in the forum and I will put up their particulars.

SO, All you guys who have served in Combat, what's your opinion on a worried Dad getting a pair for his son?

Thanks  OG

I'd say that if that helps bring a measure of comfort for pops, geeve em!

Im not sure about which branch your son's with, but anykind of training is good training. Great job for being there for him; I also have 2 hanai/step sons, one is an Army/Afghan vet, getting ready to go again in 4 mos.

My son left with the rest of his 1/3 Lava Dogs last month; his 2nd tour to Helmand Provence. My dad is a Marine vet, I'm a Marine vet, and now my oldest son is out there for God, Corps and Country. We've all been through this. Since I live in Hilo, I flew over to spend the last few days with him, his wife and my moo'puna...anyway, he and I spent some good times wala'au, shared thoughts and exchanged gifts.

The Corps is very tight about bringing personal gear so we honored that. He soooo wanted to take my Taurus PT 1911 with him.

Anyway, best of luck to your son; I'll keep him in my Prayers.

Aloha, Sgt.C

OG he would probably appreciate more porn, snacks, cigs, tobacco etc.

We have quite a few guys that go over there :P I haven't seen anyone investing in some crazy underwear.  Don't forget, if they don't fit properly it could lead to chaffing, excess heat (sweaty balls is horrible, not to mention it kills your "children").  Aside from that, I am pretty skeptical on the amount of injuries any pair of underwear will provide if the AQ hit your Humvee with a IED.

Additionally, if you were to step on or trigger a IED -- I'm really doubting there is much of anything that will save you.  I know many guys will equip their rifles with extra gadgets though (sights, mag pull parts etc) maybe that is something you can help with?  Big fat EOTECH maybe lol?

If his wearing them gives you peace of mind, have your son get approval in writing  from his command first.  The DoD has strict policies regarding commercial body armor and the last thing you want is to get him something he can't use.

Personally, I'd pass on them...unless he's spending all his time in a vehicle, those boxers are not practical (too restrictive & hot).

If it helps any, when my friend went to Iraq, I gave him my eotech to use. He loved it, and was envied by his peers. Good luck!

Aloha,

Thank You for he interesting replies.

My son is in the same service as the first poster.

He is very concerned about troop movement and security. and gets on my case about "talking" too much.

Since we live 200 yards outside of the "back door" he gets to "come home" to do laundry and Mom's home cooked quicky Spam n rice meals.

He's happy with what weapons related items that are supplied to him.  I just gave him more "hints" on use of the M-9 as he never trained on it.

The BB idea came from a newspaper article about groin injuries going up with IED attacks.  Can't put a tourniquet on a femoral artery if it's cut high up
I think the BB gives a wearer more chance at survival.

After seeing some non published info sent to me, I feel that it is a worth while addition to his bag of "toys".

It is up to him if he wants to wear them.   It's my job to ensure piece of mind for Mom.

Don't know about your Wives, but, Dad would rather have a High Noon gunfight with a terrorist rather than get Mom pissed off at him  :-)

After my tour in the good ol USMC, I'd have to say one of the best buys I EVER made, were for some black boot socks at the Pendleton NEX. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the brand, all I remember is that they had teflon threading imbedded in the weave of the socks. They kept the blisters and chafing from the boots to a minimum and were super comfortable.  Doing 12 mile humps were not nearly as bad on my feet compared to wearing ol vanilla cotton socks. And they were durable as hell, lasted my entire 5 years in the Corps before I ended up tossing them.

Along with good socks, some foot powder always is a plus to help keep your feet dry.

Reason I say this, is that your feet are the things that keep you going (no pun intended). If you start developing bad blisters and open wounds on your feet, it can really hamper how you're able to operate effectively.

Just my .02 cents, tell your son good luck and God speed on this deployment...

I read about these undies in the "Marine Times" a month or 2 back.  With that said I believe these are still being field tested.
