Accuracy,
Reliability,
Fit & Finish,
Available accessories,
Capacity

These are some of the reasons that I chose my favorite.

Would you happen to have any interest on a xd9?

It sounds like a glock would fit your preferences pretty well but in the end, it would probably come down to how it fits your hand and shoots for you.

If I had to carry a 9mm to trust my life with it would be a Glock.

If I chose just based on what I consider to be the purdiest 9mm on the planet, I would choose my CZ-75B polished stainless with black rubber grips.
This pistol is without a doubt the best chick magnet I've ever had the privilege of taking to the range with me.

I vote Glock.

Can you even get a Beretta for under $600?

Online you can. But then gotta consider the FFL and shipping. Probably somewhere around $630 all told. I've bought from www.onlinegundeals.com. Thems good folk.

I have no experience with 9mm, but damn those Glocks are reliable. I voted XD because it's similar design but has my fabled grip safety.

When I bought my XD45 at Young Guns, I asked them how much their 92fs goes for. It was something like $789 so I was like  -

Voted Glock.  I've owned a 17 and it NEVER had a single problem.  Shot all kinds of ammo through it.

Hmmm... awfully short list!  I would have voted for the Hi Point, myself.  Could get 3 for $600!

I voted for the S&W M&P.  It has all the functionality of the Glock, but with more comfortable ergonomic grips and a better trigger.  Just go to any gun store and ask to handle both and you'll see just what I mean.  A more comfortable grip = less hand fatigue = more range time.  Smoother more comfortable trigger = better shot placement.

While Glock has earned a reputation as the workhorse of semi-auto handguns, it also is a 30 year old design.   While most people will say "It's reliability that matters, so long as the gun can shoot".  Just think of what type of car you were driving in 1982, and compare that to a car from 2005.  While the engines are probably very similar in functionality and reliability, the creature comforts and accomodations have significantly evolved with the times for the newer model.  Such is the S&W M&P, compared to the Glock.   Both are excellent guns, but given the choice between the two-- the M&P all the way.

is capacity that big of an issue?  I only ask cause we have that dumb ass 10rd cap.  Unless of course you'll be using it in another state.

Anyways, my personal favorite is HK.  HK p30 r HK p30L (long slide).  Best ergo's i've ever felt on any handgun by far.

EDIT: God damn it, i just saw the "UNDER $600" part lol.

Well then i'll have to change my answer to m&p9.  I like the ergo's on that one too.  It's almost as good as a p30 and with the beaver tail it protects your hand from slide bite.  Also reducing felt recoil a bit.

I vote Glock.

Can you even get a Beretta for under $600?

We have the 92fs/m9 for $550, $599 w/rail (m92a1) and theres a $50 le/nil rebate too.

Id vote either glock or M&P

I love the S&W M&P 9, although I shoot Glocks more. My M&P shoots softer and flatter then my G34. I haven't put rounds through a Gen 4 G17 to compare it to the M&P.
The M&P probably has the best Crimson Trace laser grip integration of all the handguns listed.
