« on: May 31, 2011, 08:30:07 AM »
The original letter sent on my behalf from GOA.

Thank you for using Gun Owners of America Mail System.

Message sent to the following recipients:
Representative Hanabusa
Senator Akaka
Senator Inouye
Message text follows:

March 21, 2011

[recipient address was inserted here]

 [recipient name was inserted here],

Whereas the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms;

Whereas the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has
spent more than four decades eroding  our First, Second, Fourth and Fifth
Amendment rights;

Whereas the ATF has used fraud and misrepresentation to misclassify
firearms and ban the possession of firearms which are constitutionally
protected;

Whereas, in incidents such as Ruby Ridge and Waco, the ATF used excessive
force to that led to loss of innocent lives;

Whereas the ATF has stripped honorably discharged military veterans of
their Second Amendment rights, without due process of law;

Whereas the ATF is currently attempting, in violation of federal law, to
require reporting of multiple sales of common semi-automatic rifles;

Whereas the ATF, through Project Gunrunner, has shuttled firearms to
Mexican drug mobs in order to increase pressure for gun control, and;

Whereas at least two firearms that were allowed by ATF to pass into Mexico
were discovered at the crime scene of a murdered American federal worker,

Therefore, we petition the Congress of the United States to enact
legislation to eliminate firearms from the jurisdiction of the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

Sincerely,

XXXXX XXXXXX

Sen Akaka's response:

April 25, 2011

Dear Mr. XXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to gun control legislation.

I have long supported the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms as well as the efforts to address the root causes of violence comprehensively through education, drug prevention, and other community-based programs.

I will keep your thoughts in mind as the Senate considers firearms-related legislation. Mahalo again for taking the time to contact me.

Aloha pumehana,

DANIEL K. AKAKA
U.S. Senator

Congresswoman Hanabusa's response:

April 29, 2011

Dear Mr. XXXXXX,

Thank you for your correspondence regarding the removal of firearms from the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).  I appreciate your input on this important issue.

The ATF is the lead federal law enforcement agency charged with administering and enforcing federal laws related to the manufacture, importation, and distribution of firearms and explosives.  While the ATF periodically checks the records of federally licensed gun dealers, the major focus of the firearms program is the reduction of firearms-related violence and assisting dealers in complying with laws pertaining to the sale and transfer of firearms.

We must ensure that the proper platforms are available for screening gun applicants and enforcing laws once we have them in place.  In Hawaii, we already have some of the most stringent gun control laws in the country; however, more can be done to ensure the protection of the American public.  This is precisely the reason I became a cosponsor of bills like H.R. 308, the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act.   While we may not agree on this matter, I respect your point of views and welcome your comments.

Again, thank you for expressing your views on this crucial issue.  I hope you will continue to contact me on federal matters of concern to you.  If you would like regular updates, please sign up for my e-newsletter at http://hanabusa.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Colleen Hanabusa
Member of Congress

Will look for Senator Inouye's response, he sent me an actual hard copy letter, so I"ll have to dig it up and either scan it, or type it in to post it. Hope you enjoy the two I was able to post up though.  :shaka:
