What's with the D after his name?

Only for votes or legitimate political.affiliation?

come to the fundraiser with the rest of us and you can ask him yourself

HiCarry

While I appreciate the fact he's "pro-gun" if his political demeanor is consistent with the way he runs his Facebook page, he'll just be another self serving politician that cannot support his position with reason and logic. I tried to respond to one of his Facebook postings and because he didn't like what I was saying he banned me. I don't think I have to convince anyone I'm "pro-gun" so if he cannot handle a well intentioned "debate" online, how's he going to handle a real "in your face" debate with those that aren't as friendly as I am?

Aloha!

Please join my family and me as I kick off my campaign for Aiea State House Representative on Wednesday, June 25, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Alvah Scott Elementary School at 98-1230 Moanalua Road in Aiea.

I continue to serve on the Aiea Neighborhood board for the past 15 years, spent over a decade as an award-winning news cameraman in Hawaii, worked on major political campaigns for the past two decades and have been a small business owner all my adult life. Now I’m ready to use this experience to better our community!

Can I count on your support?

Mahalo,
Tracy Arakaki
Candidate District 33
Aiea State House of Representative

HiCarry

This doesn't explain him banning people from his Facebook because he doesn't like what they have to say, which is technically illegal if he is using said page as a public figure.

He was using FB as a business entity, so he can ban whoever he wants.

And, while I may have my problems and concerns with that type of behavior, he would most likely be a more favorable candidate than the competition. I'm not saying we shouldn't support him, just that he should consider that as a public figure he should more carefully weigh his actions and responses so he doesn't come across as an ass or another self-serving politician. I hope he does win, but I also hope he realizes he'll need to change a bit if he hopes to be effective and capitalize on those of us that may not support every aspect of his platform but wish to support him generally

This Facebook page is clearly (solely) political in nature: https://www.facebook.com/arakakiforaiea

There is no information there, nor anywhere else that I can find, stating his positions on any particular issues beyond the vaguest "politician talk" ("guarantee that I will work night and day"... "transparency and responsibility"... etc.) generalities.

Isn't there anyone running for that office that is rather more libertarian oriented? Or do people just vote for the person (in Hawaii that'd be "D") most likely to garner the votes who is the lesser of the two evils? I believe some people call that "being practical". There are other words for it.

I haven't been able to find who the other possible candidates are, but was curious as to what happened to the incumbent. It's Mark Takai, professional lifelong politician, now running for U.S. House of Representatives. Here's his view (http://marktakai.com/gun-control/) on firearms ownership:

"Gun Violence Prevention
“I have a military background – that is why I don’t understand why individuals need military grade weapons in their homes.”
I believe citizens should be allowed to own guns for sport – guns without military applications like automatic firing capability. No one needs an Uzi to puncture paper targets or to bring down a pig during hunting season. These weapons are for killing and should be banned."

Really?! He wants to ban automatic weapons? Now there's a "common sense gun safety regulation" solution to a non-existent problem! Next thing you know he'll be proposing a law to confiscate the Uzis from all the pig hunters. That shouldn't take long. He's going to pass laws based upon his personal intuitive and evidence-based determination of what people "need"? Sorry, but I get really disgusted when I see this crap from these lying pandering leeches pulling down taxpayer-funded salaries who pass laws denying me my natural and civil liberties.

If anyone knows who else might be running in the Arakaki race I'd appreciate a heads up. And not just the other Democrats in the primary, but people in or out of other parties. Thanks.
