Ar15 thread question
« on: June 03, 2014, 12:57:14 AM »
If an ar15 comes with a flash hider does that mean that the barrel is threaded?  I would want to install a barrel shroud is the reason for the question. Any additional info on this installation would help mahalo  :shaka:

I'm not the expert, but all my muzzle devices for AR's have threads -- muzzle brake, flash hider, etc.  I'm not sure if you are aware, but if the barrel itself without a device attached is less than 16", then the device must be permanently attached (pinned and welded) to achieve the 16" minimum legal length.

So, if you intend to remove the muzzle device for any reason, it'll be easier to start with a full 16" barrel to keep from doing a bunch of extra work removing and reattaching the device.

BTW, isn't a barrel shroud one of those shoulder things that goes up?      :wtf:

In most cases yes.  The only ar15 i can think of that has a flash hider that doesn't have a threaded barrel is one of the ruger piston ar15's because the flash hider is actually milled from the barrel itself.

If you told us which ar15 you're looking at, we'd probably be able to tell you for sure.

Also the kineti tech site lists ar15 AND s&w ar15 barrel shrouds...what's the difference between s&w ar15 and all other ar15 barrels? Are the threads different?

They're talking about the m&p 15-22. Some of them don't come with threaded barrels

You can get text messages of certain peoples tweets via the Twitter website.  This is what I do with OGC since I don't check Twitter often.  Most people have unlimited text and they generally only tweet 2-3 times per day.  Sometimes they have sales towards the end of the day so it's useful to get them right away.
