"The first step to fixing a problem, is realizing there is one"
I only wish it were just one problem.
IMO we desperately need to get back to the Constitutional form of government we once had.
Stop trying to use government and laws to force social change that only a small number of us really want.
Instead, enforce laws that promote accountability and personal responsibility and by way of that, create better citizens.
Unfortunately, this isn't the easy answer that most people want to hear.
The second step toward solving is to properly define the problem.
It gives me ulcers when I hear things like, "We have to take action now," but I haven't yet heard what the real, underlying problem is they are trying to fix.
Kids get shot in schools. Okay, figure out where all the factors exist that could have changed the outcome.
Then, look at the constraints: laws, Constitution, cost, time to implement, public willingness, etc.
From that set of solutions, implement the ones most likely to prevent a school shooting in the future at a few test locations.
Once the mistakes , procedures, and details are worked out, use that as a template for other places.
Instead, all we hear is, "I HAVE A HAMMER! This situation might not be a nail, but I really want my hammer to be the answer! Why are you stopping me?!!"
Agendas before real solutions guarantee the problem will never be solved.
