I'm reminded of the walking dead scene where leader of the band of men has Rick in a bear hug, and asks Rick, "what are you gonna do now sport?" Right before Rick bites his throat out.  The SCARIEST thing about that show is not the zombies, it's the people in a world without order.

Since you brought it up :)

If I'm not mistaken, quite a few of the survivors from the prison died last season, but not one was killed by a walker.

Something to ponder...

AR-15 and Beretta Neos .22LR pistol

Although I love my bolt guns, I guess it's not about sentimentality in TEOTWAWKI

And 22 pistol is accurate enough for hunting small game semi-quietly. ( or whatever else might need to be done semi-quietly )

Or maybe a .357 lever gun and a .357 revolver and I could walk around the hood like the new sheriff in town until I get wacked.   :shake:

Glock 17 and LMT AR15.

I also agree on the training and maintenance of training. I've been lax in the latter, but hoping to get more back into it. I thought I knew quite a but until taking classes specifically for pistol and carbine. Many times the lessons are little things, but they can make a big difference. It's really eye opening how your body and mind reacts under stress.

What Surf said is a great reality check.

I was at Honolulu Range with dirtylickins when he put me through some handgun drills. While I shoot really well with my gun at the KHSC pistol target range, doing the drills with a different handgun and different tempo made me realize that I need to practice differently (defensive shooting) and to practice a lot more.  After dirtylickins showed me a few things, my shooting improved quite a bit. Thanks for that, dirtylickins!

If Hawaii ever got into a real SHTF situation, I probably would not go roaming around and hope that law enforcement and all four branches of the armed forces gets involved in getting EROL in place sooner than later.  In the meantime, I would get my family and neighbors coordinating with authorities (see CERT) and involved in maintaining peace and order for our section of town.

Okay, back to the original thread topic...

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

There are many highly effective combinations of firearms that would more than adequately serve the purpose.  The reality is that the more important piece of the puzzle will come down to the mindset, training, preparation and survival skill of the user as opposed to the actual tool itself.  The even more sobering truth is that there are many who think they possess the required skill sets and firepower and might also think they would do well among the masses of the herd.  The reality is that most of those "prepared" individuals are still severely lacking in ability when compared to the true meat eaters who exist out there and would not stand a chance if things got really ugly.  They would only become a prime target and a source of re-supply.

Many will not like this answer, but it would become the truth in a true "end of days" type of scenario.

Simple question in your mind perhaps, but the truth of what I said remains.  Problem is that most people fit exactly into the category mentioned by mauidog and discussion of that can be valuable to many who don't consider such things enough.  I guess another thread could be started, but I answered the initial question.  I see so much useless bickering on this forum over nothing that goes on for pages, yet I feel that this is a genuine consideration directly related to the topic of this thread and it seems to bother you.  If it annoys you or if I come across as pompous, feel free to ignore it.  Simple enough.

IMO there are many good threads that touch on this subject in the preparedness and survival area of this forum.  Another thread there would be cool as I like to read about others opinions on this topic.
