oldfart, thanks for your hospitality today and for checking out my wife's M&P.  It seems the issue is the extractor being a bit tight and the cartridge not sliding in smoothly when the slide brings the cartridge to battery.  I think I will give it a few more hundred rounds at the range before doing any smoothing work on the extractor.

Thank you also for your trigger control training tips.  I will give those a try next time we go to the range.   :shaka:

No problem. Always cool to meet fellow enthusiasts.
A lot of people don't understand the importance that the extractor plays in the semiautomatic pistol.
Definitely try to remember the mental excerises with your wife.
Good pistol marksmanship is only a few minutes away if you coach her right!

Interesting. . .

Will see how my M&P 45 does this weekend.  Sounds like could be the same thing.

Good that OF could help you out, with the gun and otherwise!

I couldn't really help his extractor because it is pinned with really teeny weeny roll pin.
Also, it's not my gun so i dare not modify it. But my obvservation is that the pressure required to insert
A cartridge rim under the claw is too high. It also has a rough gritty feel when the rim is trying to slide in.
If I owned that gun, I would definitely radius the sharp edges around the claw.
I would even try cutting a coil off the extractor spring, as long as i have a spare spring available.

The mental exercise thing is something that I developed on my own.
Pistol shooting is maybe 90% mental. So that is my focus.

Put 50 through the M&P 45 today and seems like things got much better. Mostly students got to shoot the gun. Had a couple of failure to go fully into battery on loading, but that was totally from the students riding the slide forward. Had a couple of failure ls to go fully into battery and both I'm pretty sure were from a limp wrist by two different students. Other than that, no other failures. I got to shoot about 5 rounds and another instructor wanted to try out the gun as well and he shot a 10 round mag and no problems between either of us. Seems like things are loosening up because I was honestly expecting more failures to go back into battery due to limp sristinf by students since the gun seemed somewhat finicky for the first 50 rounds. I have another box of 50 at home and will see how it does through that box, but I expect it to go smoothly.
