The history of gun control is filled with racist undertones...the Army Navy laws that restricted what guns you could own, i.e. the expensive ones, New York's Sullivan Law, which was meant to keep guns out of the hands of Irish immigrants, and the Jim Crow era laws. Even the term "Saturday Night Special" is an abbreviated term that originally was obviously quite racist:
Quote
In his book Restricting Handguns: The Liberal Skeptics Speak Out, civil rights attorney and gun scholar Don Kates found racial overtones in the focus on the Saturday night special ("niggertown Saturday night special"). Gun control advocate Robert Sherrill claimed: "The Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed not to control guns but to control blacks."

Even the conservative Patron Saint Ronald Reagan tried to control the Black Panther "uprising" by implementing gun control laws.....

Reagan might have been a Republican, but when he called for gun control he was in California.  As Governor, he swore to uphold the laws and Constitution of the state.

When he became President, he changed his anti-gun-owning Californian ways and supported gun ownership rights -- completely inline with his presidential oath to support and defend the US Constitution.

And it wasn't just the Black Panthers he sought to control.  It also included several Communist organizations.  So he was trying to disarm anyone he deemed a threat to public safety, race notwithstanding.
