I went to practice a little pistol yesterday and there was a novice shooter there who needed a few safety tips.
So as I was explaining the house rules, I was informed by the RO that there was a recent rule change.

You don't need to remove loaded mags from the bench during cease fire any more.

Ive never done that.........

Never understood that rule, but always did as I was told.

Always bothered me, too.

Makes more sense to leave the loaded mags on the bench, and take the empties to load behind the line while you wait for the line to be hot again.

Does the rule apply to speed loaders for revolvers, too?

The no loaded mags on the bench seemed to be an unofficial rule, some RSO's required it, some did not.
Someone goes up to the bench, loads up, and starts firing during the ceasefire.  Guess it gives the RSO's a little more time to react.  Could be the gun owner by accident, crazy guy that just wants to shoot people, or suicidal people.  Didn't make sense to me either.

Maybe you didn't have the mag so the RSO could see it's loaded ...

I know I was reminded more than once, as were the people I was there with -- both pistol and rifle sides.

IMHO
The no mags rule made more sense than the 5 shot rule.
I have to admit I have intentionally loaded my glock mags to full capacity there.
It was the easiest way to check full functionality of the pistol.

I got stuck in there yesterday. Great excuse to practice tactical breathing.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

I checked out the range today in the late morning. At the rifle side with my family. Had some talk with the RO's. They was friendly and explained about all the do's and don'ts. Can't wait to come out this Sunday. Hope I get to meet some of you there.  :shaka:

Good initiative in doing a recon and asking questions.  Should still have an experienced shooter with you there on your first trip.  Avoids lots of scoldings.
