Never understood that rule, but always did as I was told.

I always take my loaded mags off the bench/table on the Pistol, Rifle or Silhouette side during a seize fire. My thoughts would be why leave your weapon and loaded mags behind for anyone to access. I feel safer taking it with me. I know m,amy leave theirs behind but I can only control what I do, not anyone else.

I hear what you're saying.  However, sometimes I wonder more about the ROs watching for things getting stolen as opposed to people touching firearms and shooting someone.  There was a time when guns were reported getting stolen and I believe in at least a couple instances they were guns that were on the bench/counter during target changes.  I haven't heard of anything like that for a while, but when I did, I wondered how the hell that happened if attentive ROs were there.  If one is not supposed to even handle any firearms during the cease fire, how is one going to get away with taking one off the bench/table and walk off with it?  Yes, there's some sarcasm in that, but mostly serious.

Theft has occurred on the rifle side as well. It pays to shoot with friends as we all keep an eye on each other's benches while some of us go down range or use the bathroom.

I hear ya.  I tend to go by myself when I go on the weekdays.  Mostly due to schedule and a lot of that has to do with me just wanting to get some stuff done without interruption.

Yeah, I did hear about some thefts on the rifle side.  I thought at least one or two were of rifles still in cases and located either next to the bench or behind the line.  In the behind the line instance, can't fault the ROs for that one, but if someone picked up a rifle bag during a target change, the ROs should've caught that.

If all the shooters walk down to tape/set up/take down their targets, the RSOs aren't looking for anyone to be messing around the tables.  I see some of them congregate at the range master's station until the shooters start to return.

Pistol targets are mostly on the 25 yd line, but rifle targets are 50 or 100 yds down range.  That's more distance to cover during a cease fire.

For at least a half a minute there might be no eyes on the tables or on range and rifle bags behind the line.  Would be simple to snag a firearm and get away with it.   >:(    >:(

I am interested in this, what are the courses of fire how much ammo is required? As long as it's not drill weekend I could probably bring a few extra rifles.
