What are popular gunpowder brands?
« on: July 15, 2014, 07:27:47 PM »
I'm looking for handgun powder locally. What are the popular brands besides Hodgdon that they sell here? I want to research what I need to buy. Thanks.

Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

Just buy them all and figure it out after seems to be your M.O.  :D But all kidding aside depends on what caliber your loading for. Hope u have a reloading manual.
Look at what caliber your loading find what velocities and pressure u want to be at, then go and look for what ever powder u can find and do some load development.

I spy a reloading manual. Looks like it's still in the wrapper. You should try different brands and find the one that works best for you.

Right now ALL handgun powders are popular.
The current  workflow is:
1. pick a caliber
2. Pick a bullet
3. Consult loading manuals for ANY appropriate powder. Make a list.
4. Go shopping for anything on your list.
What, Me Worry?

No I opened the book. This is my 2nd book I just bought. I figure there are popular brands and maybe I should hold out until they are back in stock then just get whatever is available.

I went to WGS and they are all out of handgun powder. I haven't tried any other stores yet. I have almost everything I need for reloading but the powder.

I like winchester 231 for most handgun loads but it's been sold out locally for a long, long time, so I'm using what I've got left--bullseye.  It's dirty but it shoots fine and it's all I have on hand besides a pinch of Unique.

At this time, I'd say buy whatever you can get and try some loads.

Bullseye, 231 and Unique (better for 45) will all work for those calibers.  I haven't tried it but Ed Masaki says clays is good powder for 45, I just haven't found any recently.

Bullseye and HP38. Pretty much non existant in stores now.

Hook up with other reloaders.

They may have what you want, and you may have what they want.
