I hear you!  No respect No shooting period! We were taught proper handling and safety at a very early age.

We used to take out the rats at our pig pens, dog kennel's, feed shed's etc and my uncle's piggery as well as the chicken farm. We literally shot rats all night we had and used .22's the sound of the shot scared them but after a certain time and depending where we were we were only allowed the pellets guns.

Being able to have quick follow up shots and not having to pump up the benji's wouldve been sweet. And of course the power, quietness and magazine fed PCP's wouldve decimated the rat population back then lol.

I was able to take out a couple rats with the viper a couple nights ago using my buddies .22 Marauder Pistol w/LDC as you said pellet strike louder then the report.

Keep up the good work brother...Aloha!

Hi Guys,
Most of the sightings are on a public access road. Hate those weasels, got a few pigs running around too. But in Hawaii Mongoose are pretty much top predator in the food chain. Seen a few owls, but they are active at night little chance of killing mongoose pups.
Took out a few, could shoot 3 - 4 in 30 minutes after work.
Used to collect and hang tails till they started stealing and eating their deceased kin. Named a big male Cannibal... RIP...Lol Breed like rats one of Hawaii's worst invasive species.
Because of other wildlife wouldn't use poison. There's no way the land owner would let anyone shoot them on a active access road. Makes me sick seeing them every day... You know forum members don't do any illegal  or inappropriate activities. Need a better mouse I mean Mongoose trap...
Happy hunting...

B808,

Sorry to hear about the mongoose issue at your workplace. Too bad you cant take um out during lunch break or something lol.

Man if they offered a bounty that would be awesome. In one job we caught almost 300 in 8 days it was crazy for a while.
Hey Hunta,
Could you tell us where did you trap um. Private or government  contract? Would be interested in the location. Know our C&C parks are just infested with Mongoose. Funny we even have Mongoose running on tables and by bags during active firing at the range. Don't worry shooters not at rifle or pistol range. Just don't recommend leaving food out. Wonder if fishing is allowed? Second thought bad idea. Lol

Sorry Bro,  I was posting when you posted lol.

To answer your question we did both bro private and govt.  We worked on the Ho'omaluhia Issue with C&C but due to technicalities we declined hope we get an opportunity to get the pigs out of there.

Aloha!

Hunta,
Those traps  are awesome.  :worship:
Family eradicator made a similar trap but larger trap with a LED trigger to drill pigs. Wonder how much these traps cost must be kinda expensive?
Uses larger disposable cO2 cartridges too. Is the Possum trap the size used for mongoose? Can see how your body count can get so high. Just clear out dead vermin and keep trap area clean, keep on drilling... Looks super easy to move and reset. Definantly a awesome trap... Cull the stupid young curious ones for sure. LOL

Howzit 808,

No, the rat trap (A24) is for mongoose.   The possum trap (A12) we use for cats.

Probably has to do with govt agency buying them. Try buying direct from website didn't work.

Talked to my partner and he said you need to contact them because a customs broker is needed.  Probably to much a PITA for just one etc.

We arent govt just a private contractor doing natural resouce work mostly for endangered species.  Although I was working for the govt when these first came out and they came over and we hosted them. I met those guys in the videos and we are actually helping them develop a better trap. As I mentioned their baits didnt work as well here as in NZ.  We are still trying to figure out a better way to promote the bait(s).  We were the first in hawaii to use these and its catching on in the natural resource community but it can be better way better in our opinion.  To that end we are working on new delivery systems and modifying it to see if we can make it more effective.

Aloha!

Not sure why you need a special customs guy for since I buy stuff direct from the UK and China fairly often *shrug*

Guess I'll keep shooting until rev 2.0 gets but and released in the US.

That type of trap could be perfect over by the bus stop.  Last night I saw what must have been about 20 of them all at once by the trash there.
Set one up there so the rat falls into the water instead of being a warning to the others.  Hmm. Rev 2.0 need to accept a scuba tank of air for power.  24 kills per co2 cylinder wouldn't last a whole night.

Yeah understood!  I know it drives my partner crazy though as he's the rat guy lol  Im the pig guy so I just help him out if he needs it.  At this point I am unsure of them releasing it in the US, I think they should they'd make money I'm sure.

Yeah in your situation it would need a bigger tank for sure lol...Its pretty loud when it fires it probably get on people's nerve listening to it all night hahaha!

Sounds like the noise is something to be improved upon.  Perhaps a valve that releases the pressure from the barrel slowly or some type of silencer.   Loud noise would make the rats scatter (besides annoying nearby people)

So my woman has gone to the mainland to visit her daughter for a few days and it's now time to start some serious hunting.

Since I not only have permission to hunt the rats but was actually asked to i decided tonight would be the night.

I filled the two 8 pellet magazines that I have, filled the rifle with air, put in freshly charged batteries into my night vision system and made my way over to the bus stop trash area.

Here is my report.  It does not disappoint.

I was a little worried that since trash pick up happens in the morning and the trash had been moved to the curb there might not be may rats by the concrete wall that provides a backdrop for safety. I needn't have worried.  As I was setting up the tripod 4 large rats ran within 3-4' of me *yikes!*
The didn't stay still long enough to shoot them but two ran towards the trash area while the other two turned and ran back toward the apartments behind me.

Finished setting up the tripod and unwrapped the pellet gun from the towel I had it wrapped in when I carried it over there.  Turned on the night vision and words cannot describe what I saw - so I whipped out my iPhone and videoed a little bit before the slaughter began.

Within the first minute I had hit at least 6 rats with the first magazine.  Remember how I said they often stand around stupidly as I pick them off?  Well, that seems to only last for a certain number of hits before they start catching on that it's time to RUN!!!
By the time I changed mags all of the ones that had been standing around decided it might be better to leave the area stat.  That's ok though because a couple were dumb enough to come back while others were hanging out on the banks of the stream (both sides).  I had no problem finding enough targets for the second mag.

When I was out of ammo there were 4 bodies right where they had been hit in the trash area and there were some in the water.  Pretty sure I hit at least 11 of them although once they fell in the water they would sink and I couldn't see all the bodies.  I imagine some may have managed to crawl back into a burrow or under the bridge to die.

To be conservative I'll say 8 dead although there is likely to be 3 more dead by morning.  Possible more were hit but when they jump up a foot into the air and run through the fence or into a burrow I don't necessarily know if they were hit or just scared by a near miss.

Although I had permission to be there I put the 4 bodies in a trash can and left pretty quick. In and out within 5-7 minutes total. with the only signs I had been there being several blood  splotches around the concrete.  Even those may be gone by morning as an army of cockroaches seemed to be enjoying the fresh blood.

+8

195 dead rats and counting.
