Installing a grind-to-fit recoil pad
« on: August 14, 2014, 07:04:37 AM »
Anyone have experience installing one of these? I recently got my Dad's 1924 vintage Savage Modell 1899 takedown, and it had one of the "white line" recoil pads on it. The recoil pad was rock hard and coming apart, and I had to destroy it in order to take the rifle apart to clean it (likely the first teardown cleaning it ever got). I read the instructions on a new recoil pad, but this might be beyond my experience level.

Any suggestions on how to do it? Or any gunsmiths on island who can do it?

Hi state

its not hard you can either tape up the stock and grind/sand to fit it while its mounted or buy a recoil pad jig like the miles gilbert one and grind/sand it off the stock
