Giraud TriWay trimmer
« on: August 21, 2014, 04:49:39 PM »
Just got it today and trimmed a few .223 cases. Out of the box it trimmed to nominal length according to my Dillon case gauge. I used a corded Ryobi, cheap drill and it trimmed fine. No wobbles from the trimmer. I think it is a great tool. Less expensive than the Gracey and powered Giraud. I bought a 308 and 223 trimmer.

I ordered in on Aug 15, it was shipped on Monday and I got it today, Thursday. $10 shipping.

I totally missed this post last month.
Since you seem to be a very serious rifleman, I respect your opinion on this product.
I'm going to order one of these tomorrow.
I got a big bucket of beautiful once fired Federal commercial brass just begging to be loaded.
The old Dillon has been waiting a long time for this.

SO far, I lost count of the .223 cases I've trimmed. I've been using my corded drill with no probs. I sold my Gracey trimmer awhile back and these Giraud Triways are way better and cheaper. I like it. Saves a LOT of time! Great value.

About how many cases can you do in a minute?  I think with my cheap lee stuff I was doing about 5 or 6 in a minute.  Though I had sore fingers after a while.

...

You also have to take into account the inside and outside deburr and chamfer.

I estimate 3-5 seconds per case and that includes inside chamfer and outside debur. I had the Lee and its pretty good, but you'd need to inside chamfer and debur. I wear the new issued gloves for the task. In addition, I haven't noticed any accuracy gains or losses, my groups still look the same.

Looks like quality stuff.

I wish I could afford the Giraud system for each of my calibers but it would be way too expensive for me.  I went with something a lot cheaper: Lee Precision Deluxe Quick Trim Case Trimmer.

It's inexpensive, may be purchased with an adapter attachment for a cordless drill to make it even quicker and even deburs and chamfers the case at the same time thereby eliminating the need for a two-step process. So far its working well.

I have to try that one, little more in my price range.

I was ready to pull the trigger on that before I saw the Giraud TriWay

The only drawback to the Lee trimmer that I know of is the slight variance in case lenght from case to case and that the case is held stationary in the shell holder by friction using a rubber O ring that can potentially wear over time. Since friction between the case and O ring keeps the case from rotating in the shell holder while the trimmer is spun, case lube can cause the case to spin. I learned how to deal with this problem by cleaning the case before trimming.

I ordered an received my trimmers.  Great top notch product. Trims deburrs and chamfers nicely.  There is slight variation in cut, might be due to my technique.  I'll play with it more, but I can still live with it, as the convenience, I believe, outweighs the variance.

Which one did you get? Giraud or Lee?

Sorry. The Giraud, 30-06 and .308.  Good stuff. :)

How have your Girauds been holding up? I've been using my Lee trimmer and it's more than sufficient for my bolt gun. My AR rounds go a lot faster and was looking into a Giraud.

Works great.   easy when all operations are in one step.  very quick and easy.  So far just used the .308 and it works awesome.  Going to catch up on 30-06 this year, it should speed things up nicely.
