24 Aug 2014 Puuloa Rifle Shoot Pics
« on: August 24, 2014, 08:34:51 PM »
Some pics from today's rifle shoot at USMC Puuloa RTF Ewa Beach. Today was an NRA Approved 800 AGG Service Rifle Tournament at 200, 300, and 600 yards. I think there were about 18 shooters today, approx half were competing for score with NRA Legal Service Rifles in the standing, sitting, and prone position. The other half (including me) of the shooters were not competing but just shooting for fun with are scoped rifles in the prone position from the same distances. These pics are the rifles that were on my relay today.

I think it depends on participation.
It's been wearing on the people running it lately.
We have a great opportunity to shoot distance at Puuloa and the staff at the facility are outstanding in supporting the club, however, we need people to help out with the running of the range..OICs, RSOs etc.
I was thinking of having some clinics or the like to engage shooters at Kokohead. The awards, etc. the fun of shooting at distance and the workout in the pits.

Looks like we have enough people to run a f-class match now.

I know for service rifle there is a reduced range course that can be shot at 100 yards at koko head, not sure if there is a F-class equivalent.  But if we could run one at Koko Head then it would help promote one at Puuloa.

We do need more beginning/experienced range support at Puuloa to keep the range running.  It is entirely run by volunteers.  The Puuloa club is having a marine Range Safety Officer (RSO) course for club members in the future on a weekend, so members can learn how to run a range.  Great experience to have for military and civilian club members.

Depending on the day, I would like to take the RSO course

Do you have to be a member to take the course? What is the civilian waiting list like?

I can get on base but am no longer a civilian (now contractor).

I know I can shoot on Kbay, is it open to contractors as well, or a place we can call to find out more information on open days if there are any?

I'll let you guys know when we have a date scheduled for the RSO class, it gives you knowledge on how to run your own range safely, and also goes over range requirements (safe zones, etc).

Military, DOD Employees, and civilian club members are able to shoot at the range.  The amount of memberships available to civilians is restricted, we need 2 military/dod members for each civilian member, so there is a waiting list for civlian memberships.  So apply ahead of time cause I don't know when your name will be selected for membership.

For non-club member civilians, you need a club-member sponsor to shoot at Puuloa.  Myself and a bunch of other members on this forum are willing to sponsor you as a guest if you are a safe and disciplined shooter, just ask.  Sponsors must escort and be responsible for guests on the range.

Also do not call marine corps range control about the range schedule, puuloa club events, or individuals wanting to shoot there.  Contact the Puuloa Club at www.puuloa.com or puuloaclub@gmail.com instead.  Marines don't like it when shooters call their office.

awww c'mon, we're (range staff) not that bad :-) but good point.  Puuloa Club schedule changes at times so its best those interested contact the club for the most current info.

More importantly, i suggest you folks who either never shot at puuloa or shot but stopped coming because firing lines not covered or there was bit of manual labor involved setting up and breaking down range, think about your 2nd amendments rights that are ever so getting infringed upon, take advantage of these opportunities to shoot back to 600yard line.  Small price to pay for experience of life time!

keep in mind just because you are not a member of club does not exclude you from part taking in the festivities.  just shoot them a email saying you are interested, they will do the rest to get you on federal compound to shoot.  ASK, YOU SHALL RECEIVE

*Must be at least 14yo to participate.

Thank's rooki!  Yep, you guys are great!   :shaka:

Also to add your gear needs to be portable, as in taking everything with you on the hike.  Most have some kind of cart to carry everything from pits to all the way out to 600 and back.  Some people have purpose built carts that are built specifically, However, I run this....

Combat Tactical Stroller, or CTS system, as I like to call it.

^ Anything light with more than two wheels will do, I guess. :)

Nice iron, wood, glass, and people out there.

Oh, and some plastic. :)

Thanks for sharing. Great pix !

In my experience shooting at puuloa over the past 9 years or so, new shooters i try to recruit are...and I hate to say it, afraid they won't do well and be judged. I know I felt the same way the first time I stepped on to that range but believe me it's more than just shooting.Yes there is a learning curve to learning how the range works but you just have to experience it to actually find out. To perform well you just have the endurance and intensity to just try your best. So what if you had a shitty day, it should only make you stronger and a better and fiercer competitor if you choose.

I must add that, you are your own worst enemy and the only person to beat in the end is yourself. I wouldnt have earned my cmp distinguished riflemans badge at camp perry Ohio or nra classification if I didn't believe that. Take it as it is...that's just my opinion
