See I gonna say thats the problem with society today and iff they ccontinue on this path this world will just be full of lazy good for nothing douch bags of our own creations. I stand behind ap he is being a parent. It was not for no reason and done in a controlled manner. Im sorry but in my time of growing up I wish my ass was the only place that looked like that. But you know what im a better man for it and I still love the ones who disciplined me for instilling in me the consequences of my actions or my laziness or not respecting my elders.  Now I do not condone any form of abuse lets get that straight there is a difference.

Yeah, we can't be disciplining children for something so innocent as trying to smother { murder } another child, that's just ridiculous.

My mother raised serious welts on my backside for considerably less egregious offenses than this, and I deserved it every time.

I had to pick my own switch, and if I didn't pick "a good one" I got it twice as bad.

From what I read it sounds like the boy was getting out of control and dad was trying to set things right. He may have gotten overzealous but how would people look at him if he did nothing and the boy smothered to death another child?

The pussification of the US has begun a couple of decades ago.  Not sure why it is everyone elses business how I discipline my kid.  I only do it when he screws up.  I don't do it just because I had a bad day.  Like Augie T once mentioned in one of his shows, people should be able to discipline other people's kids and sometimes parents of these kids as well.

I too grew up old school, I learned at an early age messing up in life = pain.  Though I never felt the swtich, I did feel my mom's indoor slipper, dad's belt, dad's open hand when I was young and closed fist when I was in my teens.
