A family is outraged and demanding answers after their dog was shot by police and left to bleed for an hour.

It happened a week ago in Kalihi after officers responded to a domestic call in the area. As police officers were about to leave, Bruce, a two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix, got loose from his cage and lunged at the officers, and then got shot.

When the family asked police if they could take the dog to the veterinarian, they were told to stay put until an investigation was completed.

That is totally messed up.

If it was my dog lying there, the police would have to shoot or arrest me to stop me from getting help!

Then, when the lawsuits start, the lawyers can pile on a few more violations of my rights and police department policies.

"The family plans to file a lawsuit against HPD. Investigators are reviewing the case to initiate some type of policy."
(Quote from the article)

Good luck suing.

HPD will say that they feel everything the officer did was perfectly justified.

Hey, they're ok with their officers shooting people for no reason, why not dogs?

Next we're going to read how they shot a baby in a stroller because the baby lunged at them with a pacifier.

Saw it last night on tv.  Did anyone hear if the family just recently got the dog?  I volunteer at the humane society and there was a pitbull named Bruce that was there I want to say a few weeks to maybe a month back.  I worked with him, he was one of the more mellow dogs, certainly not aggressive.

HPD might argue the shooting was justified, but they've already admitted the officers were in the wrong keeping the dog from being treated for over an hour.

I think the SPCA and Humane Society should get involved.  This was beyond animal cruelty.  You don't wound and animal and leave it to suffer for that long.

The lawsuit will be for those points, I'd bet.

too bad the familly didnt catch some video on their smartphones. if there was vid evidence maybe caldwell would call for justice just like with the sgt. cachola domestic violence case.  maybe they didn't bother to record because they thought they couldn't... i think more people need to know that its legal to videotape cops on duty.
