To pass this advice off as "Home Invasion Defense" is totally dishonest. Defense by definition:
: the act of defending someone or something from attack
: something that is used to protect yourself, your country, etc.
These little pieces of advice should be labeled, "How to be a passive-aggressive victim in hopes the attacker will stop out of fear or respect".
Car alarms that don't scare away the attacker, don't call 911, and only serve to annoy the neighbors are useless.
Bug spray in the face will only make the attacker angrier. Maybe "Wasp Spray" is a good choice, since all you are doing is kicking the wasp nest when you use it!
Being polite and helping the invader find your valuables does the opposite of scaring the attacker away. He'll probably decide to stay even longer since you aren't attracting attention or resisting. Then, try convincing a jury you really were a victim after making the invader a nice dinner, pouring him a few drinks, and voluntarily bagging up your jewelry and small electronics for the road! Without physical evidence of resistance, the defense could cook up all kinds of alternate stories explaining why his client had dinner there.
