HDF RANGE DAY FOR SEPTEMBER IS PISTOL
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:19:12 PM »
So sign ups are up in the events section.  My discussion is why does carbine get more particpent then pistol?  Is it because of permitting?  Or what? What's your .02

Carbine is more action and skill set and its a primary weapon for me. Permitting for handguns  is a pain in the ass around here and so restricted while carbine is not as bad.

For me, it's because I consider carbine under-represented. The majority of the events are pistol-centric, so there's no reason to get excited about that.  Want to train with a pistol? The worst case scenario is you have to wait one event.  Only a couple of times a year is carbine an option, so missing one of those means missing a rare opportunity.

hows about subguns? they are still pistols in Hawaii
not  machince guns but rapid fire paced ,  large pistols!  MAC and AR types!

Doing the HDF shoots for almost a year now and I find I prefer to do pistol more than carbine. Carbines are fun and all but my pistol skills are lacking and something I really want to work on as in a defensive situation it is most likely what I'll be using.

I also notice doing the carbine class most folks are able to do the drills better than in the pistol class, maybe folks feel better when they can hit the target:)

Here are my feeling on that suggestion:

1- I suspect the number of people that actually own such arms are few.
2- Out of those few, I don't think they would be the type to show up for any organized event.
3-The potential for negative publicity is huge. Remember, video cameras are EVERYWHERE

Having said that, it sounds like fun....would be best to do that on some secluded private range though.
What, Me Worry?

its fun shooting full auto, but even on the mainland lots of private club/ ranges prohibit machince guns.

HDF may run them alternately, but in the larger picture, HDF is only one player on the island. HRA doesn't run carbine alternately, only rarely. Nor do the various race/practical gun clubs. Some of them offer two-or-three gun shoots, but the focus tends to be on pistol.  So, if you figure that HDF runs 50% of its classes for carbine, but only offers 12% of the classes available at Kokohead, then 6% ofthe classes available at Kokohead feature carbine. Meh, round up for the occasional offering by other clubs and say 10%. One event out of every ten allows carbine participation.

Now, does the increased participation make more sense?

I like it... all major points made here make total sense. But thats my point on one that Joel made the average person struggles a bit with the pistol drills why would you not take every advantage. And toms percentage breakdown would also explain alot as well.

I prefer pistol to carbine also, because I definitely need more pistol practice.   :D
