Timney Trigger for my Mosin Nagant
« on: October 20, 2014, 05:35:48 PM »
I don't usually like to modify my ancient battle rifles but I just spent a couple hundred on bullets and a giood amount on powder and primers to find the perfect load for my Mosin Nagant. I not only have an accurate load but the load is inexpensive as I am shooting lead out of it. I thought about mounting a scope but I don't want to ruin the natural balance and it has decent iron sights which I can see with my old eyes. That's when I turned my attention to the terrible trigger. Mosins are know for their terrible triggers. So while researching trying to polish and replace springs, etc. I found out that Timney makes a trigger w/safety for the Mosin. It requires removing some wood from inside the stock. But after a some work I now have a Mosin which not only is decently accurate but now it is a REAL PLEASURE to shoot!

The new trigger cost me $100 with shipping and is worth every penny I paid for it. For me it added some new life into what was once an average shooting rifle.

With this trigger it puts the Mosin up there with the Swedish Mauser.

I really don't expect sniper accuracy with any battle rifle. This thing was originally built in 1942 and was rushed into service as the receiver has tooling marks everywhere except where necessary. The bore is dark but it is still a good shooter. Before the trigger job and with Wolf ammo I was seeing average groups at 100yds. I tightened that up with reloads. I expect a little better with the trigger. My expectations for the rifle have been exceeded. If I am going to change out the stock I would purchase a better base rifle to do this with that has a better barrel and receiver. And I would mount a scope. Also I would work up a different load for it. Another time and another project. LOL

I hate you Q!!!! Not really, but now I am thinking about those sights. I really didn't want to put any more money into this gun but.......

Now that the trigger is sweet I'll see how my eyes can deal with the stock sights. I actually like the stock sights. But, those Mojo sights look nice.

Thanks!!!

I feel so weak.... Hi, my name is Inspector and I'm a gunaholic. Forgive me for I have sinned. I have decided to further corrupt my Mosin Nagant and install Mojo Sights on it. I hate you guys!!!! LOL

I just ordered them. I couldn't stop thinking about how they will perform on my MN. Now I have to figure out where to find the money for my mortgage.

I ordered the micro click sight. And the front sight as well. I have now doubled the price I paid for the rifle. Thanks again for suggesting these to me.

Wish I didn't sell my M44 MN, 7.62x54 R with
200 grain SP can pretty much take anything hunting and affordable too. Love the crazy muzzle flash, wolf must use slow MG powder. Real crowd pleaser. Lol
Going to look into Mojo for my M96 Swed.
Hope to see you Bros at the range.

The stock is a war scarred original hardwood type. Ugly as sin. And yes I am considering a Boyds Walnut stock. If this thing shoots as good as I think it will with the new sights, trigger and handloads I have to make it look as good as it shoots.

I'd vote for refinishing it. There is something classic about the original wood, unless it has too many repairs or deep gouges. I did mine about 6 months ago. After a painstaking process of getting the cosmoline out, the stain took well and many coats of tru oil made it look great. Like restoring an old car - it still has the character, but looks well cared for.
