Its really a tough issue thats been going on for sometime. Its kinda hard to have a public hunting area mixed with a public hiking trail even though us pig hunters usually don't stay on the main trails. I can't talk for all pig hunters but the main trails is just for going in and coming out and by law main trails are safety zones where ALL dogs need to be leashed and that is one of the main problems on both sides. Hiking has become very popular nowadays and there is a lot of people out there compared to before.

I like the idea of registering and having hunting dogs wearing some kind of identification of their owners.

As tuff as it is for hunters nowdayz I can fully understand where hunters are coming from, especially when I grew up in a family full of hunters.  Dad is now 81 yo, my uncles, hunting partners all in their 70s and me just 53 and we don't run dogs anymore... just block trail.

I have friends who have cattle ranches and horses and the problem is all these "poachers" sneaking into these ranches and hunting.  Their dogs have mauled and even killed cattle and horses.  They mostly sneak in during the full moon nights and some during the broad daylight hours... they no care.  Sure they call DLNR but there is only so much they can do because of manpower & funding.  At least if the ranchers can catch the dogs, they can (with the help from DLNR) to hold these poachers accountable.  I call these guys poachers and not hunters only because true hunters respects the 'Aina and other peoples property.

I'm not speaking about all the hunters. It always takes a few to ruin everything for everyone else... No Respect.  Just my opinon.
