Buffalo PD to seize firearms of deceased owners

This is unreal. If you die in Buffalo the PD can legally seize your firearms from your estate. The law targets pistols primarily but many who may be intimidated by the police could end up turning over entire collections.

"The state law says that if the permit holder dies, the estate has 15 days to dispose of the guns or turn them in to authorities, who can hold the weapons up to two years".

"The arrival of the Nazi sniper set us a new task. We had to find him, study habits and methods, and patiently await the moment for one, and only one, well-aimed shot"

"Yes officer, we disposed of those guns as soon as grandpa died"
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

I may be in the minority but I understand the intent. Application may be different.  But if the state requires registration and the registered owner dies and the guns are not registered to a new owner, they are no longer within the law. Not saying is a just law, but if you live in the state you abide by the law.

They are not saying they must be confiscated and destroyed or they cannot be passed down.  They are saying whoever takes possession must register as the new owner just like anyone else. Assuming the intent is to prevent grandpas felon, wife beating, meth head grandson from walking off with the family firearms. Makes sense to me in a state that requires registration.

How about a letter from authorities to the widow(er) stating the time period allowed for registration before further action will be taken, rather than an unannounced show of force at the front door? Seems a bit of a statist authoritarian intimidation tactic... but it IS New York, so what else could one expect?

I didn't read it as the swat team was coming in guns blazing to confiscate. It could be a single LEO with a letter. I may have missed it, but it doesn't say that once confiscated it cannot be retrieved either. So they leave grandma some literature, and safekeeping he guns until the paperwork is handled. What's the problem?

15 days to comply is far to few days too dispose of an estate... I guess the law was designed by either total idiots or gun grabbers...
