Young Guns Ammo Sale - 20% off everything
« on: August 30, 2011, 03:19:41 PM »
Just visited Young Guns this p.m. and bought a whole bunch of ammo. They've got one of their 3 day, 20% all ammo sales going on which supposedly occurs half a dozen or so times a year. Sale ends on 9/1. Go support them and give 'em some of your business.

Check out OGCs deals on ammo that run through labor day. Carter let the cat out of the bag on the phone today.   :worship:

Yeah, but OGC sale is on select items (Rem 380, 40SW, and 9mm).  Young Guns sale is 20% off for ALL ammo.

FYI... I like both shops.

I'm not sure how much it'll be with 20% off at Young Guns, but OGC is selling 9MM 115GR JHP for $139 per 500.

*counts on fingers, scratches head, counts again* $13.90/box? Eh.

Yeah, but they won't sell it for that much per box.  I made that mistake before and ended up paying a lot more per box.

Are HP rounds a lot more than FMJ? I'm not really in the market for defense rounds. I'm strictly a range shooter for the time being.

Defense rounds generally cost more, and they come in boxes of 20 or 25, instead of the ususal 50 for range fodder.

Target/range loads are usually less powerful, while the defensive usually pack more of a punch, some are even +P (high pressure).
Be sure your gun is rated for +P rounds, if you decied to run them.

Self defense rounds may have differing points of impact when compared to target loads, espeacially at the 25 and 50 yard lines available at KHSC.  Therefore, it is kind of unrealistic to practice at those ranges with the more expensive ammo.  However, it is a good idea to function test your desired SD rounds to be sure that they feed reliably from your automatics. ;D

Mmm...a lot of people make that mistake. I know guys (including myself) that calculate price per round. Not a bad thing to do. But as a rule price should not be the ONLY factor considered. If the ammo works well in your firearm and falls within a certain price range, buy it.

Guess what I'm saying is don't buy ammo by the case just because it's cheap. You can end up with crap that won't work well in your particular needs/equipment.

Some who are new to the sport don't get it...I remember a lady making a scene about being "ripped off" after buying a 25rd box of TAP. WTF? Clearly no concept of the difference in the purpose of the ammo. I bought the box off her on the spot...just to shut her up.

I always advise people to practice with a full box or two of ammo they intend to use for SD. Anything less just doesn't qualify as "experience" with a particular load.

Well it wasn't the only factor.  I wanted to test which rounds best suited my rifle which is why I only wanted ONE box.

If you check in on FourSquare at Sports Authority and spend $100, you get a $25 Cash Card which is good 9/18 - 10/15. So you can pick up $125 of ammo for $100. Not bad!

No idea how many times you can do this.

Yes, that's what I mean...a good price means nothing if doesn't suit your needs/equipment. But a lot of folks don't consider if/how it'll function in their firearm and buy cases of sale ammo because "Hey it's a great deal!". <-----And yes, I've done that a couple of times myself. I picked up 2 cases of reduced recoil 12ga only to find it wouldn't cycle 100% of the time in my Benelli.

Why make a labor day sale that doesn't run through labor day?

Whats the sense of running a sale at cuts off before a three day weekend?

I know technically it isn't a "labor day sale" per se, but come on...

Come on!
