Today's article in the Star Advertiser quotes the police department saying "the gun accidentally discharged".  They should have said "the officer accidentally discharged his gun" because had he kept his finger off the trigger....

Trying to protect HPD from looking stupid and giving anti's the narrative that guns can accidentally go off. :wtf:

I recorded something on my DVR yesterday and at the tail end it caught the beginning of the news. They were at Honolulu Firearms and they were showing a S&W revolver that was supposedly the same as the gun the HPD Officer was carrying. It cut out before the whole segment was over but the HF guy was demonstrating that it takes 12 pounds of pull to fire the gun in double action. So chances are it was not an accidental discharge.

I watched the same report inspector dvr'd and it was quite definitive. Minimum of 10 pounds to pull the trigger double action, or the hammer needs to be purposefully cocked for the weapon to fire.

Accidental discharge my lily white ass.

This was idiocy and unsafe, irresponsible firearms handling by an HPD officer.

He needs to be immediately terminated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

States that allow CCW do not allow printing under the clothing or brandishing.  If you draw your weapon, it had better be to use it.  Wanna show off a gun, take it out of public spaces.

If Hawaii only had some kind of CCW training classes, maybe things like this would not be so common ....  <sarc />

Depends on the state. VA has no laws against printing or the like, in fact open carry is legal for anyone that can own a gun so that's fairly common. Brandishing is of course different, but in VA its defined as displaying the weapon in a "threatening manner." Obviously "threatening" is subjective so that's all about who can argue their side best, but at least it's open for debate.

I do know that FL is pretty strict about printing though. Also, this place has more "accidental" shootings by police than I would almost think possible.

I traded my semi-auto intended carry gun for a revolver because I wanted to make sure i wouldn't have a negligent discharge. (Premature discharge ?)

It's not easy to accidentally make a double-action revolver go off.
