Connecticut Congresswoman introducing federal buy-back

The bill would, supposedly, provide up to $2,000 in tax credits if you turn in your "assault rifles."

Hmmm maybe I can think of a way to use this as a way to turn in a couple of cheap AR sporters and get even more!!!  Or as an upgrade program!!

Fuel the firearms industry, it could be like my semi auto obama phone.

That was my initial thought too. Trade in some cheap guns and get a scar

The bad news: Only one per person. Only receive a tax credit on federal income tax, split in half over two years.

The good news: States that the tax credit is $2000 (no sliding scale) for any gun that fits the criteria (or on the specified list). No mention of whether the gun needs to be functional. The list includes Hi-Point Carbine (which I think you can get for around $239 new.)

The other bad news: Even if we all had broken rusted Hi-Points laying around and had a federal tax liability greater than $2,000, the bill won't pass a Republican controlled House.

Seriously considering buying a friend's problematic Bushmaster.

Curious how the logistics would work.  Would you take your gun to the local ATF office/turn-in location, and then they immediately put it in a shipping container marked "COLUMBIA S. AMERICA:  HUMANITARIAN AID?"  Or maybe to: "SYRIAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS --in care of--ISIS?"
