Beyond 100 finally!
« on: April 27, 2015, 08:07:21 PM »
Went out to Puuloa rifle range yesterday and was able to shoot at 2,3,5 and 600 yards.
Was an awesome experience and i would highly encourage others to try it.   :shaka:

What are the requirements to shoot there?  I was under the impression that it was competition shooting only.

There are practice days such as this past Sunday where it is run with a match course of fire sans record keeping, grumpy old men and the overall seriousness of a registered match.
As long as you shoot safely with a firearm that has approved calibers per the Marine Corps Puuloa Range facility guidelines, pay the beachguards, help setup, take down targets, score for other shooters and listen to range commands - you are welcome to shoot.
A rifle with sights is required. Yes, a person showed up with an 16" AR with no rear sight and expected to shoot.
Be mindful that it is hot out there and the targets are large. There is a lot more work than going to KHSC. Teamwork makes the day go by easier.

Do you have to be a member? I've emailed them before and didn't get a very clear answer.

Don't need to be a member. Check out the calendar for future dates.
Had a blast learning the scoring, and shooting beyond 100 yds. Even my
wife wants to do it now.  https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=18004.0

Definitely interested.  No sights.. That's pretty funny.

Beyond the obvious stuff I would bring (PPE, gun, ammo, accessories) - what else do you recommend bringing? Do we have to bring target stands or anything special?

Thanks

The shooting is done on a military Known Distance Range. This means shooters take turns pulling and marking targets for each other. No one leaves early except by misconduct or ambulance.

There is no shade and sunscreen is recommended for the 4+ hours you will be out there.

Only a few vehicles are allowed on the range, so keep your gear and gun portable. You will be walking a lot.

Targets are supported by permanent carriages that lift targets into the line of fire.

You will need a shooting mat at the 600 yard line or you will be washing your shoot clothes separate that night.

There is no lunch break. Pack snacks. Water provided.
