Hawaii's "greater voice" (i.e. media) has always been an irony. People don't want tourism or the military here but they are our greatest sources of income. Our inability to generate new markets put us in this situation (i.e. no TMT - no scientific investment)
What Hawaii's so-called caretakers (the people who don't want development), fail to see or stop is the rapid development of our urban core, push for more housing without any regard to self-sustainability. Did these same caretakers get some kind of payoff to not protest the Howard Hughes Corp.? General Growth Properties? Castle & Cooke?
