Pray your gun is in good care.  Usually those working in evidence aren't gun people don't care how things are handled.  Could've been thrown into a cardboard box with other junk and rusting away.

They took possession of a firearm that was legally supposed to be sent to you.
The HPD could have contacted you after the store reported the firearm was sent to them by mistake and given you back YOUR pistol after a check with their firearms registration unit.
I'd get an attorney.
Again, this thing is stupid. You the law-abiding citizen is going through all this crap because of a mistake by UPS. UPS owes you a refund at least. They screwed up a service to you and caused you all this angst.

ok - so went to HPD today and figured if I'm going to have to wait two weeks I might as well make the most of it. So i renewed my long gun permit, bought a new pistol and applied to get my firearm released from evidence. At first when I told them about getting back my firearm in evidence they kind of took the I'm guilty till I prove my innocence stance and also told me that I am breaking a federal law by having the firearm sent directly back to me and not through an FFL  After I mentioned that my detective friend already looked into the shipping procedure and is helping me out and that I had already spoke to their sergeant yesterday, they stopped questioning me  I bet if I didn't have someone inside helping me out I would probably have to contact the ATF to let HPD know that I did not break any laws.

One messed up thing is that even though they have my gun in evidence and they know it's mine, officially there is no case report in their computer system  the officer who wrote the initial report did it manually and by pen and paper and so it has not be inputed into their computer system, so even though this happened on Monday they have nothing in their computer system about my case number or firearm 

I hope there won't be any surprises when I go to pick it up in 2 weeks.

I would have already talked to a lawyer to find out what documentation I should be compiling to ensure my civil suit is well-prepared!

Would a statement to HPD from UPS admitting that the package was incorrectly delivered help?

If not, legal consul should probably be your next step.

That's why God created "Legal Fees and Punitive Damages"  in civil court!  9 times out of 10, the C&C will settle if it saves them money in the long run.  And you might actually find a lawyer to take a slam dunk case on contingency, too.

Me and my wife just became HRA members! Looking to join more clubs.

During the past holiday season, UPS delivered my new $1300 computer that req a signature, to the wrong guy. Luckily his wife was honest and notified us. My wife complained to UPS and they sent a guy a couple days later to apologize. My experience is no where near your craziness but I hope everything works out for you.

i think HRA is great
and we should all be members

but i dont think HPD firearms div gives a crap about any law or regulations in firearms
they do whatever the hell they want.
they are all mighty and have all the power when it comes to firearms here in this state.
it just sucks for us.

UPS can go fuck themselves. I've had packages listed as "delivered to front door" (apartment walk up) - come to find out they only had the street address (not apartment number listed). Not sure how that happens, but what sort of imbecile simply tosses it in front of an apartment building and not at a particular unit? (Not talking about a secured building with a foyer).

Long story short, I called them and pressed them on the obvious stupidity of this and they basically just shrugged.they couldn't explain why they didn't get clarification (they had a delivery phone number). Just pure laziness and incompetence.
