We cannot just erase our history here. The problem is (in my way of thinking) the average person is not a racist. So when they see the confederate flag they think of the south wanting to secede from the north, civil war, slavery, the types of weapons used, a low time in our history and Abe Lincoln, etc.

I believe that only those who look at the confederate flag and think racism therefore we need to bully everyone in the country to stop displaying the confederate flag are the real racists. JMHO
