So let's continue this by asking this question. Does race matter to someone who is NOT a racist? If yes, why would it? I can understand being proud of ones race and enjoying studying the history of ones race. But if one is NOT a racist, and has no intention of ever acting on a racial bias, then why would race matter to anyone who is NOT a racist? Now, If the answer is no, race doesn't matter if one is not racist, then let me ask this. Does race matter to one who is a racist? To me, the obvious answer to this question is YES.

So the ultimate question here is, who truly are the racists in our society? Think about it.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

There should only be one race that matters... the human race.  We are all created in God's image and each person is precious to God.  Human life is precious even if the green-earth atheists say that human beings are a parasite on this earth.

Quote
Genesis 1:28: God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

Personally, I am more concerned about all the social issues that have been coming up lately (blacks vs whites, gays vs conservatives, democrats vs republicans, bush vs clinton, etc) .  All these sudden focus on racial divides only serve one purpose.. to divide and conquer.

Our would-be-masters do this to divide and make us fight each other so that our focus is off the "real" enemies and "real" issues whoever or whatever they may be. </rant off>

Sorry Inspector.  Not sure if that helped the discussion you were intending with the thread.   :stopjack:

Are Spanish, Ecuadoreans, Mexicans, Venezuelans, Hondurans, Colombians, Chileans all just Latinos ?

Are Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Laotians, Cambodians all just Asians ?

Are Hawaiians, Tongans, Samoans, Maori, Tahitians, all just Pacific Islanders ?

As far as I'm concerned there's only the human race.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

So the ultimate question here is, who truly are the racists in our society? Think about it.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

Racists are those who feel and act as if they are inherently better than others because of their race, regardless of individual merit.  Conversely, racists are those who feel and act as if others are inherently inferior to them just because of their race.

On the other hand, if one can prove that they are better than others because of actual individual merit, then NO... that's not racist.  But the politically correct liberal thought police will accuse you of that.

Despite what the PC crowd wants you to believe, people are not created equal. That's why Samuel Colt invented the Colt. :)

Ever considered defining race from a genetic standpoint?  ;D

"The Only Certain Race is the Human Race." by Dr. Theodore E. Burk
Doctor of Philosophy, Animal Behaviorist, Entomologist, Behavioral Ecologist, this guy gave awesome lectures at my alma mater

The following quotes are from pages 4-9 of:
http://www.creighton.edu/fileadmin/user/creighton-magazine/archive/PDFs/1996_Window_F96.pdf#page=3&zoom=auto,-104,25

" Genetic distance changes gradually with geographic distance, not in large discrete jumps as we move from one “race” to another."

"Some populations in India for example,
have darkly pigmented skin (are “Black”),
have European-like facial features (are
“Caucasoid”), but inhabit the continent of
Asia (are “Asian”). Such difficult-to-
pigeonhole people cause endless problems
in contexts such as racial classification on
a census form. (On the 1990 U.S. census
form, Americans of Asian Indian ancestry
were classified as Asians, although by the
traditional racial classifications of anthropology, they are “Caucasoids” rather than“Mongoloids”

"if, instead of by skin color, we defined races
by ability of the adult to digest lactose
(milk sugar), west Europeans, west
Africans and Arabians would constitute
one race, while east Asians, Native
Americans, south Europeans, and
Australian aborigines would constitute a
different race. It’s easy to label people
based on their outer appearance, but their
genetic similarities or differences are
often not very well indicated by those
superficial traits."

My conclusion, Americans have a jaded sense of what race is.  The "racists" in our country that kill and burn churches should be re-defined as "haters".
If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

Race is a social construct. The plantation owners of the American South got worried when poor whites and blacks started joining forces and rising up against the landowner class. They stoked the fires of hatred in order to divide the forces that would break their grip on power. Looks like they are at it again.

They stoked the fires of hatred in order to divide the forces that would break their grip on power. Looks like they are at it again.

Race is actually a human nature construct which people are able to easily take advantage of for dividing one group against another.

"Nation" defines a group of people with common origins, language, traditions/beliefs, and physical traits.

The Nation of Israel and the Cherokee Nation are not places, but a nationality.  Racism grows from a distrust or low opinion of others because of their association with a given ethnicity or nationality.

Most people are more comfortable around people they identify with.  Part of that is nature's fault.  Species and races find mates to procreate and continue the bloodlines.  Nature tells us to "nest" with those who will create offspring similar to ourselves.

These tendencies to automatically recognize those like ourselves can be used as reasons for discrimination and to push fictionalized reasons for hating those who "aren't like you,"

My role model for life, Dirty Harry.

Gonzales: There is one question, Inspector Callahan: Why do they call you "Dirty Harry"?
De Georgio: Ah that's one thing about our Harry, doesn't play any favorites! Harry hates everybody: Limeys, Micks, Hebes, Fat Dagos, Niggers, Honkies, Chinks, you name it.
Gonzales: How does he feel about Mexicans?
De Georgio: Ask him.
Harry Callahan: Especially Spics.

What, Me Worry?
