I'm surprised there was not more on this subject other than "The Bullet Hole" thread.

     The state of Hawaii owns the Mountain top and it being one of the best sites in the world for astronomical observation, it is leased and used by 11 country's. 
Why are their rights to free enterprise and scientific advancement being ignored? 
Reminds me of H-3.
A lot of bitching, some valid in a cultural aspect but even though it cost the state MILLIONS just to trudge thru the complaints that delayed the project so long, H-3 was built. 
Just as the telescopes will be built.

    Trespassing, criminal destruction of public property (rolling rocks on road),  illegally parking to block the road, abandoned vehicles illegal demonstration, (permit required ?) and everything else.
State could make big bucks just in towing charges and bail money 

   Not not knock'n the Hawaiian's but if we all got together and blocked Beretania Street to boycott our inability to CCW rights (a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT) how long do you think we would get away with it ?

Yes, we have jobs and no time to "occupy" Beretania St., but that was merely a comparative example. 

Getting arrested for a misdemeanor would not cause you to lose your firearm rights. 

Most of the TMT staff/executives may be bleeding heart liberals, but there are not 700 TMT staff/executive "occupying" the road to Mauna Kea. 

The use of the words occupy and occupying is at the very least is an extremely loose interpretation of whats going on.

Let me clarify my post thread a little better.

I'm interested in the Hawaiian group's cause but not so interested enough to get off my butt to find out what all the ruckus is about. I was n the summit a month ago and saw them there at the 10k summit level. They were peaceful and off to the side, not blocking traffic passing through. At the visitors center I counted at least 12 separate observatories and dont ever recall seeing or hearing a group as vocal or visible as the one that exist today. Perhaps it was there and I never noticed it because I was even less concerned about its cause. Is it the prostitution of sacred land for commercial profit that they are concerned about or the permanent scarring of the sacre landscape that has angered the members of the group or something else?  I understand the need for research and exploration and understand that Maunakea is unlike any other location due to its elevation and clear atmosphere but understand that development unchecked can certainly permanently ruin landscape forever. I'm no believer in Hawaiian folklore and legend but there is definitely something very magical and mystical about the Maunakea summit and the Big Island in general. The island is very much alive and continues to grow and expand.  I've been to the Big Island many times but never saw it as I did a month ago.
