Looks like it wasn't a loophole, it was a F-Up.

Loophole makes it sound more like something that Moms Against Everything can rally behind.

Agree.  It's not a loophole, it's a phuckup.   Anti-gun and left wingers will use the 'loophole' explanation to try and further their agenda.

So every time i neglect important information, it's a loophole?

"Sorry officer, I forgot to pay pay for my car registration.  Ooops, guess i found a loophole!"

This wasn't a loophole.  he admitted to a drug charge.  you dont need the police report, you immediately reject the sale.

Soooo who is left holding the bag? The dealer that submitted the form 4473 for approval, or the Feds that said the sale was good?
I would suppose that the dealer is obligated to submit the form regardless of a check in the wrong box, and what does he do when the check comes back good.?
Hope he likes the view from under the bus, 'cause that's where the Feds will toss him to cover themselves.
At the least there will be the audit from Hell, if not already done. ???

The original story run by the media was that Roof's father bought the pistol as a gift for his f'd up son.
The lies continue.   Long ago school kids used to use quotes from newspapers or magazines as a source for their report when people actually believed what was printed.

It may still be true that his father bought the gun as a gift, and the 4473 named his son as the actual owner.

I've paid for a few guns that were gifts.  The person filling out the ATF form is the actual owner, but not necessarily the purchaser.

I imagine reporters with no understanding of the firearm purchase process are apt to make errors and assumptions.
