Interesting that they used the 5R rifling in that barrel.

6.5 Creedmoor is an awesome round for long range.  Much superb selection for 6.5mm bullets to choose from to create tackdriving high BC ammo.  I considered building a rifle chambered in this...  or .... the 6mm super LR (Robert Whitley's wildcat of a .243). Look that one up for fun.  ;)  I actually purchased my barrel for my custom .308 from Robert, real cool dude and got a great deal.

Assembled an AR10 chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. Love the round, especially with 123gr Amaxs. Take it to the mainland with me every chance I get to stretch its legs. Always reloaded for it, but from what I remember, factory ammo wasn't too bad cost wise, availability is another issue though.

Heavies,

You run an SLR? Looking into it and a 6CM? Probly go with the SLR though.

BTW, do you go by the same name on 6mmBR?

Aloha!

No I ended up building a .308 matched with a 95 Palma chamber for my custom build due to certain circumstances at the time.  I am the same Heavies on 6mmBR/Accurateshooter.com. ;D

Gotcha!  Wasnt sure how long ago you had your 308 built and thought you may have possibly built another rifle.

Aint that the truth brother!!!

I like what ruger did here especially the switch barrel feature and twist rates to accommodate the heavier bullets.  Probably get one of these here pretty soon and see how it goes. Need to decide which caliber to go with the 243 or 6.5?

If anyone gets one please let us know how it does!

Anyone know if any local shops brought this in?

Just checking before ordering online. If any one knows please let me know either in 6.5 Creedmoor or 243

Aloha!

FYI
We've been looking at it in 6.5 due to the extended barrel life,  but ammo seems scarce. :shake:

Leaning that way too mostly because I dont have a creedmoor due to my dislike for hornady brass. But I may give in and just get one finally although I like 243's a lot.  I reload and have a a lot of 6.5 components just need brass and dies if I went that route.  I have 243's already so have lots of components for it including dies etc.

I believe you can form 6.5 creedmoor from .308 brass.  You might have to turn the neck a little, or maybe just use Winchester brass as the necks are pretty thin to begin with.   I think it is just a matter of running them in a 6.5 die and maybe getting a lee mandrel neck die, or just use a 6.5 mandrel to get everything lined up nice.     or I'd recommend Lapua.  :)   nah, scratch that, upon further reading if you use Lapua and don't turn and work on the necks you'll most likely end up with doughnuts.

Might be able to neck up a .243 brass and fireform as well.

Howzit Heavies, Yes you are correct along with 22-250 and 260 and not deal with doughnuts. I'm sure it ain't worse then the wildcats I have plus I have loads of 22-250, 243, 308 and 260 Lapua, Norma & Winchester brass to work with.  Im thinking of loading the sierra 130 gr SGK HPBT which may keep the bullet above the doughnut since its a shorter bullet.  I also have inside neck reamers but like to K.I.S.S.

Thanks for the info and offer of help really appreciate it.  I actually looked at the Creed when it came out and as time went on hoping better brass would be made. I know I can form it but honestly didnt want to lol until now hahaha and because I have a bunch of 6.5 cal's already.  I figure if worse comes to worse re-barrel and drive on but im sure itll be fine.

Aloha!

not bad for around $1k
Maybe I missed it, but I would hope the action is all new.

Many years ago I picked up a Ruger M77 and was shocked how rattly and sloppy the bolt was on cycling.  Gave up on looking at their Scout rifle figuring it was based on the same sloppy action.

After owning a Steyr with an action tighter than Deleted I could not tolerate a bolt gun with a sloppy action.
